Mine Hill Township is a community in Morris County, New Jersey. It's a residential area located west of the center of Morris County. It's also northwest of Morristown, which is the county seat.
Mine Hill became an official township on May 8, 1923. This happened after the New Jersey Legislature passed a law on March 2, 1923. The township was formed from parts of Randolph.
The name "Mine Hill" comes from the many mines that used to be in the area. Mining here started in the early 1700s. The township was famous for having some of the richest iron ore in the country. The Dickerson Mine, owned by the family of Mahlon Dickerson (who was New Jersey's 7th Governor), was the biggest mine. It provided a lot of iron ore for the American Revolutionary War. The last mine in Mine Hill closed in the late 1960s.
In 2020, the township had a population of 4,015 people. This was an increase of 364 people from the 2010 census.
