What's in a Name?

The Meaning of Moggill

The name "Moggill" comes from the local Aboriginal people. They used the word "magil" to describe large water-lizards. These lizards were hunted and eaten in the area. When disturbed, these lizards would quickly jump into the water. The sound or action of them jumping gave the creek its name.

About Moggill Creek

How the Creek Flows

Moggill Creek is known as an ephemeral creek. This means it might not flow all the time. During dry periods with little rain, the creek can sometimes dry up. But after good rainfall, it flows strongly again.

Land Around the Creek

The land around Moggill Creek is used in different ways. You can find homes and businesses there. There are also areas for grazing animals. A lot of the land is still natural bushland. Compared to other waterways in Brisbane, Moggill Creek is quite untouched.

Gold Creek: A Smaller Stream

Amazing Wildlife

Platypus Paradise

Other Animals Living Here

The area around Moggill Creek is full of different kinds of wildlife. You might spot koalas resting in the trees. There are also possums, echidnas, and bandicoots. Even the very rare greater glider lives here. Many beautiful butterflies and birds also call this region home.
