Montagny is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Fribourg, within the Broye district. Montagny was formed by combining smaller towns.

Montagny's Story

Montagny is a fairly new town. It was created in the year 2000. This happened when two smaller towns, Montagny-les-Monts and Montagny-la-Ville, decided to join together. A few years later, on January 1, 2004, another town called Mannens-Grandsivaz also became part of Montagny.

Where is Montagny?

Montagny covers an area of about 17.5 square kilometers (about 6.7 square miles). A large part of this land, more than half, is used for farming. About one-third of the area is covered by forests. The rest of the land has buildings, roads, or is made up of rivers and lakes.

Montagny includes several villages and smaller areas. These are Montagny-la-Ville, Montagny-les-Monts, Mannens-Grandsivaz, and Cousset. There are also small hamlets called Tours, Les Arbognes, and Le Grabou.

Montagny's Coat of Arms

The official design for Montagny's coat of arms is described as "Paly of six Or and Gules and a Chief Argent." This means it has six vertical stripes of gold (Or) and red (Gules). At the top, there is a silver (Argent) band. This design brings together parts from the old coats of arms of Montagny-la-Ville and Montagny-les-Monts.

Getting Around Montagny

Montagny has its own train station called Cousset. This station is on the Fribourg–Yverdon railway line. You can take a train from Cousset to places like Fribourg/Freiburg and Yverdon-les-Bains.
