Morgan Lake (born May 12, 1997) is a talented British athlete. She is best known for her skills in the high jump. Morgan has won many medals and set impressive records during her career. For example, she earned a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She also finished fourth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Morgan has competed in big events like the 2017 World Championships in Athletics and the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships.
As a teenager, Morgan was amazing at combined events like the heptathlon. At just 17, she won both the high jump and heptathlon at the 2014 World U20 Championships. She even broke a world record for indoor pentathlon for athletes under 18. In 2015, she became the European U20 high jump champion. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, Morgan was the first British woman in 24 years to reach an Olympic high jump final. She holds the British indoor record for high jump. She has won 12 national titles in Britain.

Morgan Lake's Athletics Journey
Morgan Lake was born in Reading, Berkshire, England. She started competing in athletics when she was under 13 years old. This was in 2008 at the Slough Juniors Athletics Club.
In 2009, she broke the UK record for the pentathlon for athletes under 13. She scored 3046 points. In 2011, she broke the record again for under 15s with 3755 points. At the English Schools Championships, she won the pentathlon and long jump in 2010. She also won the long jump in 2012. In 2013, when she was 15, she came second in the high jump at the 2013 British Indoor Athletics Championships.
Her Coaches and Club
Morgan competes for the Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletic Club. Her father, Eldon Lake, is her main coach. She also gets special training from other coaches. Jeremy Tigar helps her with throwing events like shot put and javelin. Richard Aspden coaches her in high jump, and Ian Grant helps with hurdles.
Breaking Records in 2013 and 2014
In 2013, at the 2013 World Youth Championships in Athletics in Ukraine, Morgan was leading the heptathlon. She set a new UK Under 17 record in the high jump, clearing 1.90 meters. This height was good enough to win the individual high jump event. The previous record had stood for 29 years. However, she had some difficulties on the second day and had to withdraw from the competition.
In February 2014, Morgan broke a World U18 record for the pentathlon at an indoor event in Sweden. She scored 4284 points, beating a record set by famous athlete Carolina Klüft. In May 2014, Morgan won the Multistars international event. She was the youngest champion in the event's 27-year history. Her score of 5896 points was much higher than what Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill achieved at the same age.
On May 18, she broke the UK junior high jump record. She cleared 1.93 meters in Loughborough. This record had stood for 23 years. Later, in May and June 2014, Morgan competed at the Hypo-Meeting in Austria. She improved her personal best score to 6081 points. This also broke the European U18 record.
Double Gold at World Junior Championships
In July 2014, Morgan decided to compete at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics in the US. She started with the 100-meter hurdles in the heptathlon. She then set a British junior record in the high jump, clearing 1.94 meters. She was the only athlete to clear 1.85 meters. She continued to lead the heptathlon after winning the shot put. Morgan finished the heptathlon with a total of 6148 points, winning the gold medal.
A few days later, Morgan competed in the individual high jump event. She won her second gold medal with a height of 1.93 meters. She was one of only two competitors to clear 1.91 meters.
Olympic Dreams and More Success (2016-2018)
In August 2016, Morgan represented Team GB at the Rio Olympics. She achieved a personal best of 1.94 meters in the high jump. This allowed her to reach the final. In the final, she finished in 10th place with a jump of 1.93 meters.
In 2017, she jumped her personal best of 1.97 meters in Birmingham. This was the second-best jump ever by a British female athlete. Morgan finished fourth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. She cleared 1.93 meters but missed a medal by a small margin. A month later, she won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. She again cleared 1.93 meters.
Recent Years (2019-Present)
Morgan continued to compete at a high level. In 2019, she represented Great Britain at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar. She was eliminated in the high jump qualification round.
In 2020, she won her fifth straight British high jump title. She jumped 1.80 meters at the 2020 British Athletics Championships. She also came second in the indoor competition. In 2021, Morgan won the British Championships again. She cleared 1.93 meters. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she qualified for the final. However, she had to withdraw due to an injury.
In 2022, she won the British title once more. She finished fourth at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She also placed seventh at the European Championships in Munich.
On February 4, 2023, Morgan broke the British indoor high jump record. She cleared an amazing 1.99 meters in the Czech Republic. After winning the high jump gold at the 2024 British Athletics Championships, Morgan was chosen for the Great Britain team for the 2024 Summer Olympics. She did not qualify for the final in Paris, clearing 1.88 meters.
