Morgan Lake (born 12 May 1997) is a British high jumper. She is known for her amazing skills in track and field. Morgan won a silver medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She also finished fourth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Morgan placed sixth at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics and fourth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships.

As a teenager, Morgan was a very successful combined events athlete. At just 17 years old, she won both the high jump and heptathlon titles. This happened at the 2014 World U20 Championships. She also set a world indoor record for U18 pentathlon that year. In 2015, she became the European U20 high jump champion. Morgan made history at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She was the first British woman to reach an Olympic high jump final since 1992. She holds the British indoor record for the high jump. Morgan has won 12 British national titles.

Morgan Lake's Athletics Journey

Morgan Lake was born in Reading, Berkshire, England. She started competing in athletics when she was an under-13 athlete in 2008. She joined the Slough Juniors Athletics Club.

Early Records and Achievements

In 2009, Morgan broke the UK Under-13 pentathlon record. She scored 3046 points. In 2011, she broke the Under-15 record with 3755 points. Morgan won the pentathlon and long jump at the English Schools Championships in 2010. She won the long jump again in 2012. In 2013, at 15 years old, she finished second in the high jump. This was at the British Indoor Championships.

Coaching and Support Team

Morgan competes for the Windsor, Slough, Eton and Hounslow Athletic Club. Her father, Eldon Lake, is her coach. She also gets special coaching for different events. Jeremy Tigar helps her with throwing events like shot put and javelin. Richard Aspden coaches her in the high jump. Ian Grant helps her with hurdles.

Breaking Records in 2013

At the 2013 World Youth Championships in Ukraine, Morgan was leading the heptathlon after the first day. She set a new UK Under-17 record in the high jump. She cleared 1.90 meters, which was enough to win the individual high jump event. This record had stood for 29 years! However, on the second day, she had some difficulties. She ended up withdrawing from the competition.

Amazing Year in 2014

In February 2014, Morgan set a new World Under-18 record for the pentathlon. She scored 4284 points, beating a record set by famous athlete Carolina Klüft.

In May 2014, Morgan won the Multistars international event. This was her first time competing in the senior heptathlon. She was only 16 years old, making her the youngest champion ever for this event. Her score of 5896 points was much higher than what Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill achieved at the same age.

On May 18, she broke the UK junior high jump record. She cleared 1.93 meters. The previous record had stood for 23 years!

Later in May and June 2014, Morgan competed at the Hypo-Meeting in Austria. This is a very important multi-events competition. She improved her personal best score to 6081 points. This also broke the European U18 record.

In July 2014, Morgan decided to compete at the 2014 World Junior Championships in the USA. She started by setting a British junior record in the high jump during the heptathlon. She cleared 1.94 meters. She won the gold medal in the heptathlon with a total of 6148 points. A few days later, she won her second gold medal at the championships. This was in the individual high jump event, where she cleared 1.93 meters.

Olympic Debut and More Medals (2016-2018)

In August 2016, Morgan represented Team GB at the Rio Olympics. She competed in the high jump and reached the final. She jumped her personal best of 1.94 meters. In the final, she finished in 10th place.

In 2017, she jumped her personal best of 1.97 meters in Birmingham. This was the second-best jump ever by a British female athlete.

Morgan finished fourth at the 2018 World Indoor Championships. She cleared 1.93 meters, just missing out on a medal. A month later, she won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. She cleared 1.93 meters again.

Recent Years (2019-Present)

Morgan competed at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Qatar. She was eliminated during the qualification round.

In 2020, she became the British champion for the fifth year in a row. She won the high jump event at the 2020 British Athletics Championships.

In 2021, Morgan won the British Championships again. She jumped 1.93 meters. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she qualified for the final. However, she had to withdraw due to an injury.

In 2022, she won another British title. She finished fourth at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. She also placed seventh at the European Championships.

On February 4, 2023, Morgan broke the British indoor high jump record. She cleared an amazing 1.99 meters in the Czech Republic.

After winning the high jump gold medal at the 2024 British Athletics Championships, Morgan was chosen for the Great Britain team for the 2024 Summer Olympics. She did not qualify for the final in Paris.

On July 19, 2025, she won the high jump at the London Diamond League Meeting. She cleared 1.96 meters.
