How Mount Currie Was Formed

Mount Currie is made of sedimentary rock. This type of rock forms from layers of sand and mud. These layers were laid down over millions of years. This happened during the Precambrian and Jurassic periods. Later, huge forces pushed these rocks eastward. This event is called the Laramide orogeny. It caused the rocks to fold and stack up.

The southeast side of the mountain shows interesting patterns. You can see "chevron folds" there. These are zig-zag shapes in the rock layers. They are made of calcareous shale. This means the shale contains calcium carbonate.

Weather and Climate at Mount Currie

Mount Currie has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold, snowy winters. The summers are usually mild. Temperatures can drop below −20 degrees Celsius. With wind, it can feel even colder, below −30 degrees Celsius.

The best time to visit or climb Mount Currie is from June to September. These months have the most favorable weather. Water from rain and melting snow flows off the mountain. This water goes into Currie Creek and White Man Creek. Both of these creeks flow into the Spray River.
