The Story of Mulan
The movie tells the exciting story of a brave young woman named Mulan. Her adventure begins when a fierce army of Huns, led by Shan Yu, attacks China. To fight back, the Chinese army needs one man from every family to join the war.
Mulan's Difficult Choice
Mulan's father is old and has a limp, making him unable to fight. Mulan knows he would likely die if he went to war. Meanwhile, Mulan is supposed to get married, but she struggles with the tests to prove she would be a good wife. She feels she has brought dishonor to her family.
To save her father and bring honor back, Mulan makes a daring decision. She secretly takes her father's armor and weapon. Then, she leaves home, pretending to be a boy, to join the Chinese army.
Training and New Friends
Mushu, an old spirit guardian of Mulan's family, has been turned into a small dragon. The family ancestors want someone to watch over Mulan. Mushu sees this as a chance to get his important job back. He and a lucky cricket join Mulan as she meets the army.
Mulan pretends to be a man named Ping. The new soldiers, led by Li Shang, need a lot of training. After much hard work, the army is ready to face the enemy.
Facing the Huns
The Chinese army finds the Huns in the snowy mountains. During a battle, Mulan cleverly uses a cannon to start an avalanche. This huge snowslide buries most of the Hun army. However, Mulan gets hurt by a sword.
When a doctor examines her, he discovers that Mulan is a girl, not a boy. Li Shang is angry and leaves Mulan alone in the mountains. The rest of the army then heads to the Emperor's palace.
Saving the Emperor
As Mulan and her animal friends try to light a fire, they see something shocking. Some of the Hun enemies survived the avalanche and are climbing out of the snow. They are heading straight for the Emperor's city! Mulan quickly decides to follow them and warn her friends.
In the Imperial City, the army is celebrating their victory. No one believes Mulan's warnings because she is a girl. Suddenly, Shan Yu and his surviving men appear. They kidnap the emperor and hide inside the palace.
Mulan and her soldier friends come up with a clever plan. They dress up as palace women to trick the attackers. They manage to rescue the emperor and get him to safety. With her friends' help, Mulan uses a store of fireworks to defeat Shan Yu for good. The emperor rewards her for saving the country.
Mulan's Return Home
Mulan returns home with special gifts from the emperor. Her bravery has brought great honor to her family and to Mushu the dragon. The emperor encourages Shang to marry Mulan. Shang travels to her town, visits her, and is invited to dinner by her family.
