BD Wong (born October 24, 1960) is an American actor. He is famous for his many roles in movies, TV shows, and on stage. Wong won a special award called a Tony Award for his acting in the play M. Butterfly. He is the only actor in Broadway history to win five major awards for the same role!
You might know him as Dr. Henry Wu from the Jurassic Park movies. He also played Dr. George Huang on the TV show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Wong also voiced Captain Li Shang in Disney's animated movie Mulan. He has done a lot of voice acting and stage work throughout his career.

Early Life and Education
Wong was born and grew up in San Francisco, California. His mother, Roberta Christine Wong, worked for a telephone company. His father, William D. Wong, was a postal worker. He has two brothers. His family comes from Hong Kong, so he is of Chinese descent.
Wong went to Lincoln High School. There, he discovered his passion for acting. He starred in many school plays. Later, he attended San Francisco State University. In 2022, he received an honorary doctorate from the university.
Career Highlights
BD Wong first became widely known for his role in the Broadway play M. Butterfly. He acted alongside John Lithgow in this play. The show won many awards, and Wong received several for his performance. He is the only actor to win the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, Clarence Derwent Award, and Theatre World Award for the same role.
On television, Wong played Dr. George Huang, an FBI psychiatrist, on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He also had important roles as Father Ray Mukada on Oz. He made guest appearances on popular shows like The X-Files and Sesame Street.
In movies, Wong has appeared in many well-known films. These include Father of the Bride (1991) and its sequel. He is also famous for playing Dr. Henry Wu in Jurassic Park (1993) and its sequels. He lent his voice to Captain Li Shang in Disney's Mulan (1998) and its sequel, Mulan II. He also voiced the character in the video game Kingdom Hearts II.
In 2011, Wong left Law & Order: SVU to join another TV show, Awake. In this show, he played Dr. Johnathan Lee, a therapist. He also played Whiterose, a mysterious character, on the USA Network show Mr. Robot. For this role, he was nominated for a Critic's Choice Television Award and an Emmy. Since 2017, Wong has hosted the HLN series Something's Killing Me with BD Wong. This show explores strange and unexplained medical cases.
Charity Work
BD Wong supports many charities. He gives his time and help to groups that support fairness and equality for all people. He also helps arts-related charities. Some of these include the Ali Forney Center, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, and Rosie's Theater Kids. He is also a board member for Rosie's Theater Kids.
Personal Life
BD Wong has a son named Jackson Foo Wong. He wrote a book in 2003 about his experiences with surrogacy. The book is called Following Foo: The Electronic Adventures of the Chestnut Man. In 2018, Wong married Richert John Frederickson Schnorr in Brooklyn, New York.
