Nasty Party facts for kids
The term Nasty Party is a nickname that was first used by Theresa May in October 2002. At the time, she was a member of the Conservative Party in the United Kingdom. She said that the party needed to change because some people saw it as "the Nasty Party."
This nickname was used to describe some members of the Conservative Party who held very traditional views. Some people felt these views were not welcoming to everyone. They believed the party was too focused on business and didn't show enough care for people who were struggling.
Many members of the Conservative Party agreed that they needed to update their image. They felt that this nickname and the old-fashioned views were reasons why the party had lost recent elections. They wanted to attract more voters and become more popular.
