About Teddy Sinclair

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Natalia Noemi Cappuccini was born on August 15, 1986, in Bradford, England. Her father is from Afro-Jamaican heritage, and her mother is from Uruguay. She went to Bradford Girls' Grammar School. Her family moved around a lot when she was young. She spent time in England, Jamaica, and Spain.

When she was 14, she left home. She decided to focus on music instead of acting. She has said her teenage years were difficult. She faced challenges and tried to find her way.

She started her music career and had a big moment in 2003. She won a music battle on BBC Radio 1 in Leeds. A song called "Next Big Me," released under the name Verbalicious, was in the movie Sleepover in 2004. In 2005, she released her first single, "Don't Play Nice". She used the name Verbalicious for this song. Sinclair shared that her mother used to call her "Verbal." This was because she talked and sang a lot. She used this nickname as her stage name at different times.

In 2007, she put a demo album called Womannequin on MySpace. She had produced and written it herself. This album got 2 million plays online. She became a top artist on the website without a record deal. During this time, she also helped write and sang on a song by French artist M. Pokora. She moved to Los Angeles in 2008. She arrived without much money or a place to live. She worked hard to make music with anyone who would help her. In January 2009, will.i.am signed her to his record label. She said they had a great creative connection.

Music Albums and Marriage

Sinclair started using the stage name Natalia Kills. Her record company thought her real name was hard to remember. Kills released her first album, Perfectionist, in Germany in April 2011. Her first single, "Mirrors", was a top 10 hit there. She described the album as being about how everyone tries to be perfect. The album had four singles: "Mirrors", "Wonderland", "Free", and "Kill My Boyfriend".

From 2010 to 2011, Sinclair performed as an opening act for many artists. These included Kelis, Robyn, Kesha, Katy Perry, and the Black Eyed Peas. .....

On September 14, 2012, Sinclair released a video for "Controversy." This was to promote her second album, Trouble. This album was about her childhood experiences. Trouble was released on September 3, 2013, in the United States and Canada.

The X Factor New Zealand Incident

In late 2014, it was announced that Sinclair and her husband Willy Moon would be judges on The X Factor in New Zealand. During the first live show, they made strong comments about a contestant named Joe Irvine. Sinclair said he copied Moon's style and called him "disgusting." These comments caused a lot of upset online. Many people signed a petition to have them removed from the show. The show's sponsors and other judges also disagreed with their comments. Moon and Sinclair were both removed from the show the next day.

After this, it was shared that Sinclair had left her record label, Cherrytree Records. She later also left Interscope Records.

Cruel Youth and Other Projects

In early 2016, Sinclair formed a band called Cruel Youth with her husband, Willy Moon. Their first song, "Mr. Watson," was released in February. "Diamond Days" followed in April. Their third single, "...", was released in September. Their first album, +30mg, came out on September 16, 2016. In 2015, Sinclair also helped write Rihanna's song "Kiss It Better". This song was nominated for a Grammy Award the next year.

In 2018, Cruel Youth released two more songs: "Devil in Paradise" and "Portrait of a Female." In 2020, Sinclair worked with Cyndi Lauper on a song called "Rats" for a TV show. In 2022, Sinclair and Moon received songwriting credits for "The Happiest Girl" on Blackpink's album Born Pink. They also released "Mr. Badman" for the movie The Invitation. In 2023, Cruel Youth released a cover of "Sunny" by Bobby Hebb.

Personal Life

Sinclair married singer Willy Moon on May 23, 2014, in New York City.

Health Update

On April 18, 2025, Teddy shared on social media that she had brain surgery. This was to treat trigeminal neuralgia. This condition causes severe pain in the face.

Music Style and Inspirations

Sinclair has said that Kate Bush and Alanis Morissette are her most important music inspirations. She sees them as emotional artists who write honestly. She also looks up to Gwen Stefani as a hero for her music and style. Other artists like Prince, Vanity 6, and Freddie Mercury have inspired her live shows.

Sinclair likes music that is both personal and bold. She listens to music to understand things better, not just to relax. She grew up listening to bands like Hole, Marilyn Manson, and Eminem. According to Jon O'Brien from AllMusic, Sinclair's music mixes different styles. These include the dramatic dance-pop of Lady Gaga, old movie styles, and the electronic sound of Depeche Mode.
