Natalia Marisa Oreiro Iglesias (born on May 19, 1977) is a talented actress, singer, songwriter, model, TV host, and fashion designer from Uruguay. She first became famous for her roles in telenovelas (Spanish-language soap operas). Since 2008, she has mostly focused on movies.
Natalia also cares deeply about social issues. She has worked with organizations like Greenpeace and UNICEF. In September 2011, UNICEF named her an ambassador for Argentina and Uruguay.
Her role as Milagros Espósito in Muñeca Brava (1998–99) made her a huge star around the world. People in Central and Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Israel especially loved her. Early Life and Beginnings
Natalia Oreiro was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, on May 19, 1977. Her parents are Carlos Florencio Oreiro Poggio and Mabel Cristina Iglesias Bourié. She has roots from Galicia (Spain) and Italy. She also has an older sister named Adriana.
In 1986, her family moved to Málaga, Spain, for two years before returning to Uruguay. Natalia started acting classes when she was eight years old. By the age of twelve, she was auditioning for commercials. As a teenager, she appeared in over 30 TV ads for big brands like Coca-Cola and Pepsi.
Career Highlights
Starting Her Career: 1995–2000
When Natalia was 16, she moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to pursue her dream of becoming a star. In 1993, she won a children's contest called El Show de Xuxa. This made her an assistant and representative for the show's host, Xuxa, in different Latin American countries.
She also worked as an MTV VJ (video jockey). In 1995, she got a small role in the soap opera Dulce Ana. The next year, she was cast in the telenovela 90-60-90 modelos as Lucía. She also made her first stage appearance in the play Butterflies Are Free. In 1997, she landed her first main role in the soap opera Ricos y Famosos.
In 1998, Natalia starred in the Argentinian film Un Argentino en New York. After the movie, she released her first music album, Natalia Oreiro. The song "Cambio Dolor" from the album became the main theme for her next big TV show, Muñeca Brava (1998–1999). For her role in Muñeca Brava, Natalia was nominated twice for a Martín Fierro Award for Best Actress.
By January 2000, E! Entertainment Television named Natalia "Celebrity of the Century." She became very popular in Russia and Israel because of Muñeca Brava. She even performed many times in Israel and won awards there.
Music and Movies: 2000–2005
Natalia continued her music career with her second album, Tu Veneno. She performed at various events in Spain and Miami. A big moment was her performance at the Viña del Mar Festival in Chile in 2000, where she was crowned Queen of the event. Her album was nominated for a Latin Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Album.
On June 1, 2002, her third album, Turmalina, was released. This album mixed rock, pop, and sounds from the 1950s and 60s. Natalia helped write some songs on the album, like "Alas De Libertad," inspired by children she met. "Mar" told a love story, and she also helped with the lyrics for "Cayendo." The song "Que Digan Lo Que Quieran" was the first single from Turmalina. She also recorded "Pasión Celeste," the official Uruguayan song for the 2002 World Cup, with Fredy Bessio. "Cuesta arriba, cuesta abajo" was the opening song for the soap opera Kachorra.
In March 2003, she started filming her second movie, Cleopatra. She then went on a tour across Eastern Europe and Latin America. In March 2004, she began filming the TV show El Deseo.
TV and Film Focus: 2006–2014
In 2006, Natalia starred as Esperanza Munoz, a female boxer, in the telenovela Sos mi vida. She reunited with her Muñeca Brava co-star Facundo Arana for this show. It was a huge success, becoming one of the most-watched fictional TV programs in Argentina at the time. The show won several awards.
In 2008, Natalia starred in Amanda O, which was a special internet TV series. It was one of the first soap operas made for the internet. Later in 2008, she appeared in the film Las vidas posibles.
In 2009, she starred with Diego Peretti in Música en espera, a film that sold many tickets. She also presented the film Francia at international film festivals.
In 2010, Natalia starred in Miss Tacuarembó, a musical comedy. She also sang all the songs for the film's soundtrack. That same year, she hosted Se dice de mí, a program that aimed to raise awareness about women's rights.

At the end of 2013, Natalia started her music tour in Eastern Europe called Nasha Natasha Tour Hits. "Nasha Natasha" means "Our Natasha" in Russian. She also released a new song and music video, a cover of Gloria Trevi's "Todos me miraran." Her "Nasha Natasha Tour 2014" included 19 cities in Russia. One of her biggest concerts was in Moscow, where over 60,000 people attended. She later recorded a new Russian version of "Me muero de amor" with Facundo Arana.
In 2015, she returned to television in the drama series Entre caníbales.
In 2016, she starred in I'm Gilda, a film about the life of the Argentinian singer Gilda. The movie was very popular in Argentina. The film's soundtrack became her fourth music album. In December 2016, she released the first song from the album, Corazón Valiente. The film was shown at several festivals, and Natalia won many awards for her performance. She also hosted the 2016 Platinum Awards and sang "Garota de Ipanema."
Stage Return and World Cup: 2017-2019
After the I'm Gilda film soundtrack, Natalia returned to the stage in early 2017. She sang at various festivals in Argentina. She also hosted the 2017 Platino Awards again and received a special Platinum Iris award for her career.
In 2018, her movie Super Crazy premiered. She also released two songs for the 2018 FIFA World Cup held in Russia: "United By Love" (on the official album) and "Mi Pobedim." She received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kids Choice Awards 2018 and the Crystal Kikito award at the Gramado Festival in Brazil.
In 2019, her "Unforgettable Tour" included 14 concerts in Russia, Belarus, Moldova, and Armenia. She later returned to Russia to sing at the New Wave Festival. In November 2019, the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in the United States honored her with a Career Achievement Award. In Argentina, she appeared in the films "La Noche Mágica" and "Las Rojas." She ended the year by singing for a huge crowd in Poland.
Recent Work: 2020–Present
In early 2020, Natalia filmed scenes for the movie Hoy Se Arregla El Mundo. She also hosted Got Talent Uruguay, which was renewed for more seasons. On August 6, 2020, Netflix released Nasha Natasha worldwide. This documentary, directed by Martín Sastre, explores her special connection with Russia and shares parts of her private life. The documentary became very popular in Uruguay, Argentina, and several European countries.
In 2021, she filmed the first season of the Amazon Prime Video series Yosi, the Regretful Spy, which premiered in April 2022. In this series, she plays a character involved with a spy story. On February 17, 2022, it was announced that she would host La Voz, the Uruguayan version of The Voice. That year, the western film Las Rojas was also released, where she starred alongside Mercedes Morán. The Star+ series Santa Evita also premiered, with Natalia playing Eva Perón.
In July 2023, she continued to host the second season of La Voz. She also starred in the romantic comedy film Casi muerta, playing a woman who discovers she has a serious illness.
Personal Life
In 2001, Natalia Oreiro started a relationship with Argentine singer and musician Ricardo Mollo. He is well-known for being a member of the rock bands Sumo and Divididos. They got married secretly on December 31 of that year.
On January 26, 2012, Natalia gave birth to their son, Merlín Atahualpa Mollo Oreiro, in Buenos Aires. On October 25, 2021, Natalia and her son received Russian citizenship.
She has stated that she believes in socialist ideas.
