Neranwood is a small area, or 'suburb', located in the beautiful City of Gold Coast region of Queensland, Australia. It's a quiet place, mostly known for its natural surroundings. In 2021, about 79 people lived in Neranwood.
A Look Back: Neranwood's History
The name Neranwood comes from a company called the Nerang Hardwood Company. This company set up a sawmill here in 1923. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into timber.
A small school, called Neranwood Provisional School, opened on 15 June 1925. However, it only stayed open for a few years and closed on 31 December 1928.
To move the timber from the sawmill, a special private railway, called a tramway, was built. It carried the timber to a railway station in nearby Mudgeeraba. The tramway even had two locomotives, which are like small trains, named Alison and Kathleen. But the sawmill and tramway didn't make enough money, so they closed in 1928. After they closed, local people used the wooden railway sleepers for firewood.
In 1924, a telephone and telegraph office was also set up in Neranwood. This helped people communicate with others far away.
