Nickelodeon on CBS facts for kids
Nick on CBS was a special block of Saturday morning cartoons and kids' shows that aired on the CBS television network. It started on September 16, 2000, and replaced an older block called CBS Kidshow. This block mostly showed programs from Nick Jr., which is a part of Nickelodeon for younger kids. At the time, both CBS and Nickelodeon were owned by the same big company, Viacom.
When the block first started, it was called Nick Jr. on CBS. A friendly character named Face from Nick Jr. was the host. On September 14, 2002, the block changed its name to Nick on CBS. It then started showing programs from both Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. However, in 2005, the Nickelodeon shows were removed. The block went back to showing only Nick Jr. programs. A character named Piper O'Possum helped connect the different shows with short segments.
At the end of 2005, the company Viacom split into two separate companies. CBS Corporation became its own company, and Nickelodeon went with the new Viacom. Because of this change, Nick Jr. on CBS ended on September 9, 2006. A new block called KOL Secret Slumber Party on CBS took its place on September 16, 2006. This new block was part of a deal between CBS and another company called Cookie Jar Entertainment.
All the shows on Nick on CBS were marked as meeting "E/I" requirements. This means they were supposed to be educational or informative. This is why some very popular Nickelodeon shows, like SpongeBob SquarePants and The Fairly OddParents, were not shown on the block. Even during the time when Nick on CBS showed more kinds of programs, these shows were not included because they didn't meet the E/I rules.
