A Look at North Booval's History

North Booval has an interesting history, especially concerning its churches.

The Story of Trinity Ipswich Uniting Church

Trinity Ipswich Uniting Church was formed in July 1970. It started as a team effort between several churches in Ipswich:

  • Booval Congregational Church: This church moved locations a few times before closing in 1970.
  • North Booval Presbyterian Church: This church was located on Bridge Street.
  • North Booval Methodist Church: This church was on Tuggerah Street.

The churches worked together, using different buildings. A new church building was opened on Jacaranda Street in September 1973. During the big floods in 1974, the Bridge Street church helped people. It stored items from flooded homes and acted as an office for flood relief. Later, this church building was moved to the Jacaranda Street site and became a hall. The Tuggerah Street church was also moved to the same site and used as a kindergarten.

In 1977, the Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregational Churches joined together to form the Uniting Church in Australia. Because of this, the church in North Booval was renamed Trinity Uniting Church. Later, other churches from East Ipswich, Bundamba, and Blackstone also joined. The church then became known as Trinity Ipswich Uniting Church.
