How Norway Helped Form Other Towns
When Norway was first created, it was a very big town. Over time, parts of Norway were used to create many other towns. About 36 new towns in several nearby counties were formed from Norway, either directly or indirectly.
For example, in Herkimer County, towns like Fairfield (1796), Russia (1806), and Ohio (1823) were all made from parts of Norway. A piece of Newport was also taken from Norway in 1806.
Other counties like Oneida County and St. Lawrence County also have towns that originally came from the large area of Norway.
Early Life and Farming in Norway
In 1825, Norway had a population of 1,168 people. The soil in the area wasn't great for growing crops. Because of this, early farmers in Norway started raising dairy cows instead. By 1887, there were six cheese factories in the town, showing how important dairy farming became.
Historic Buildings in Norway
The old Baptist Church is an important historical building. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. This means it's recognized for its special history and architecture.

Norway covers a total area of about 92.8 square kilometers (or 35.8 square miles). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water.

New York State Route 8 is a main road that goes through the northwestern part of Norway. This road helps people travel to and from the town.
