Ohio is a small town located in Herkimer County, New York, United States. In 2010, about 1,002 people lived there. The town is named after the state of Ohio. You can find Ohio in the northern part of Herkimer County, northeast of a city called Utica. A part of the town is also inside the beautiful Adirondack Park.

A Look Back: Ohio's History
The town of Ohio started out with a different name. It was first called West Brunswick in 1823. This new town was created from a part of the town of Norway.
Later, in 1836, its name was changed to Ohio. The town also grew bigger when it received land from another town called Wilmurt. Wilmurt was once the largest town in New York!
Exploring Ohio's Geography
Ohio is a pretty big town in terms of land. It covers about 796.6 square kilometers (or 307.57 square miles) in total. Most of this area is land, about 780.5 square kilometers (301.33 square miles). The rest, about 16.1 square kilometers (6.24 square miles), is water.
The eastern edge of Ohio touches the border of Hamilton County. On the western side, the town borders Oneida County.
Rivers and Waterways
The West Canada Creek flows through the town from east to west. This creek is a branch of the Mohawk River. It eventually flows into the Hinckley Reservoir near the western border of Ohio.
Another important river, the South Branch of the Moose River, crosses the northern part of the town. This river is part of the larger St. Lawrence River system.
Roads and Highways
New York State Route 8 is a main road that runs north and south through Ohio. New York State Route 365 also runs along the north side of West Canada Creek. It then meets up with NY-8.

- Atwell – A small village in the middle of the town. It's located at the southern end of North Lake. It's named after a local person known as Atwell Martin.
- Bull Hill – A village in the southeastern part of the town. You can find it on County Road 129.
- Gray – Another village located on the southern border of the town.
- Nobleboro – A village on NY Route 8, close to the Hamilton County border.
- North Wilmurt – A village in the west-central part of the town.
- Ohio – This is a village on NY-8 in the south-central part of the town. It used to be called "Ohio City" and "Dutch Settlement."
- Wilmurt Corners – A village in the eastern part of the town. It's south of Route 8, on County Road 69.
