Oleh Krysa, born on June 1, 1942, is a famous American violin player. He was born in Ukraine and has won many international awards for his amazing music. He is known as a very talented musician and teacher.

Oleh Krysa's Early Life
Oleh Krysa was born in a place called Uchanie, which is now in Poland. His family moved to Lviv in 1945. This was due to a big event called Operation Vistula. He grew up and went to school in Lviv.
Even though his family wasn't professional musicians, his mother loved to sing. She wanted young Oleh to play the violin. His father, however, thought he should learn the piano. So, at age six, Oleh started playing the violin.
His first teacher was Konstantin Mikhailov. After finishing music school in Lviv in 1960, Oleh went to the Moscow Conservatory. He studied there from 1960 to 1967. His teacher was the famous David Oistrakh. Oistrakh said Oleh had "brilliant natural gifts" and "great charm."
His Music Career
Performing Music
After studying at the Moscow Conservatory, Oleh Krysa became a soloist. This means he played music by himself with an orchestra. He performed at the Kiev Philharmonic. At the same time, he also taught at the Kiev Conservatory.
Six years later, he went back to Moscow. He became an assistant to his teacher, David Oistrakh. He also joined a famous group called the Beethoven Quartet. He played the first violin in this group until 1987. Since the 1960s, Oleh Krysa has played as a soloist all over the world. He performs with many top orchestras and small music groups.
Oleh Krysa also loves to play new music. He has been the first to perform pieces by many modern composers. Some of these include Alfred Schnittke, Valentin Silvestrov, and Myroslav Skoryk.
Teaching Music
Oleh Krysa is also a very respected music teacher. He has taught at many famous music schools.
- 1969—1973: He was the first head of the Violin Department at the Kiev Conservatory.
- Since 1971: He became a professor at the Kiev Conservatory.
- Since 1973: He taught as a professor at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow.
- 1974: He became a professor at the Moscow Conservatory.
- Since 1989: He has been a professor at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, in the United States.
Oleh Krysa also holds special classes called master classes. In these classes, he teaches advanced students. He has held master classes in many countries:
