The Pahrump Valley is a wide valley located in the Mojave Desert. It lies west of Las Vegas in southern Nye County, Nevada and eastern San Bernardino County, California. The town of Pahrump, Nevada is right in the middle of the valley. Nearby, to the west, are the Tecopa and Chicago Valleys. You can find routes from Pahrump Valley to places like Death Valley and Las Vegas. Every February, the valley hosts an event called Pahrump Valley Days. It even includes a fun rodeo!

History of Pahrump Valley

Long ago, the Pahrump Valley was an important pathway. The Old Spanish Trail passed through it. Later, the Salt Lake Road also used this route. These trails helped people travel and trade across the desert.

Geography of Pahrump Valley

The huge Spring Mountains are on the northeast and east sides of Pahrump Valley. Nevada State Route 160 runs along the south part of these mountains. This road is the only direct route west from Las Vegas. Route 160 then turns northwest towards Pahrump, which is in the north-central part of the valley. It eventually connects with U.S. Route 95 at the valley's northern edge.

Near Pahrump, you can find Carpenter Canyon Road. It goes for about 10 miles into Carpenter Canyon. Carpenter Canyon Creek is special because it's one of the few creeks in the Spring Mountains that has fish all year round.

In California, the Nopah Range forms the valley's southwest border. The northern part of the nearby Resting Spring Range merges to create the northwest border of Pahrump Valley. The Kingston Range, which mostly runs east-west, forms the southern border of the valley.

The closest community to Pahrump is Shoshone, California, about 25 miles southwest. Ash Meadows Ranch and Death Valley Junction, California are a bit farther to the northwest.

Pahrump Valley Wilderness Area

The Pahrump Valley Wilderness is a special protected area. It is located in the southern part of the valley. This wilderness area also includes the northern part of the Kingston Range. It stretches into both California and the Mesquite Valley.
