Penthéréaz is a small town, also called a municipality, located in the Gros-de-Vaud district of Switzerland. It's part of the Vaud canton, which is like a state or region in Switzerland.

History of Penthéréaz
Penthéréaz has a long history! It was first written about in official records way back in 1141. Back then, its name was spelled Panterea.
Geography and Landscape
Penthéréaz covers an area of about 5.68 square kilometers (about 2.2 square miles). A big part of this land, about 64.4%, is used for farming. This includes fields for crops and areas for animals to graze.
About 30.1% of the municipality is covered by forests. These are mostly dense, thick woods. The remaining 5.5% of the land is where buildings and roads are located. There's also a tiny bit of water, like lakes, making up 0.2% of the area.
Until 2006, Penthéréaz was part of the Echallens District. After that, it became part of the new Gros-de-Vaud district. The municipality includes the main village of Penthéréaz and three smaller settlements called hamlets.
Penthéréaz Coat of Arms
Every town has a special symbol called a coat of arms. Penthéréaz's coat of arms is divided into two halves: one yellow and one red. On this symbol, you can see two corn ears. They are colored opposite to the background, meaning a red corn ear on the yellow side and a yellow corn ear on the red side. This design is called Per pale Or and Gules, two Corn Ears counterchanged.

Penthéréaz has a population of around 363 people (as of December 2004). About 5.5% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the past ten years, the population has grown by about 9.9%. This growth is due to both people moving in and more births than deaths.
Languages Spoken
Most people in Penthéréaz speak French, which is about 95% of the population. A smaller number of people speak German (2.0%) or Portuguese (1.8%).

In 2000, about 33.9% of the people living in Penthéréaz were born there. Another 43.3% were born in the same canton (Vaud). About 12.9% were born in other parts of Switzerland, and 7.9% were born outside of Switzerland.

The population of Penthéréaz includes people of all ages. In 2009, about 12.5% of the population were children aged 0-9 years old. Teenagers (10-19 years old) made up about 14.2%.
