Chavornay is a town in Switzerland. It's located in the Vaud area, specifically in the Jura-Nord Vaudois region. In 2017, two nearby towns, Essert-Pittet and Corcelles-sur-Chavornay, joined with Chavornay to become one larger municipality.

Chavornay's Story: A Look at Its History
Chavornay has a long history! It was first mentioned in old records way back in the year 927. Back then, it was known as Cavorniacum. Later, in 1228, its name changed slightly to Chavornai.

Chavornay is located on the eastern side of the Orbe valley. It sits on the right bank of the Talent river.
After the towns merged in 2017, Chavornay became larger. A big part of its land, about 65.7%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 15.6% of the area. The rest of the land is used for buildings and roads (14.8%) or is unproductive (3.9%).
Over the years, more buildings have been built in Chavornay. The amount of land used for farming has gone down a bit, while the amount of forest land has slightly increased. Rivers and lakes also cover some parts of the town.
