A Look at Pesca's History

Before the Spanish arrived in the 1530s, the area where Pesca is now located was part of a large group of communities called the Muisca Confederation. This confederation was made up of different Muisca leaders. Some were called zaques and lived in Hunza, while others were zipas ruling from Muyquytá. There were also caciques who governed other areas.

Pesca was under the rule of the iraca from the sacred City of the Sun, Sugamuxi. Today, this city is known as Sogamoso. The modern town of Pesca was officially founded by a person named Juan de Sanct Martín on December 20, 1548.
