Pontarlier is a town in France, located in the Doubs area. It's part of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in eastern France, very close to the border with Switzerland. Pontarlier is an important administrative center for its area, known as a "subprefecture." It's also the main town of the arrondissement (a type of district) called Arrondissement of Pontarlier.
Pontarlier is the third largest town in the Doubs area based on how many people live there. Only Besançon and Montbéliard are bigger.
