Prahins used to be a small town, or municipality, in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. It was part of the Jura-Nord Vaudois area. On January 1, 2012, Prahins joined with the town of Donneloye to become one bigger municipality.

History of Prahins

Prahins was first written about in the year 1186. Back then, it was known by the name Prehes.

Where is Prahins?

Prahins covered an area of about 2.4 square kilometers (about 0.9 square miles). A large part of this land, about 66.5%, was used for farming. Forests covered about 26.4% of the area. The remaining 5.9% was built up with buildings and roads.

Most of the built-up area was for houses and other buildings. The rest was for roads and transport. All the forests in Prahins were dense, meaning they had many trees. For farming, over half the land was used for growing crops, and some was used for pastures where animals could graze.

Prahins was once part of the Yverdon District. This district was closed down in 2006. After that, Prahins became part of the new Jura-Nord Vaudois district.

The town was located where two important roads met: the road from Yverdon to Moudon, and the road from Morges to Payerne. It sat on the right side of the Mentue river. Prahins itself was a linear village, meaning its buildings were mostly spread out along a road.
