Prilly is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Vaud area, which is called a canton. Prilly is a western part of the bigger city of Lausanne.

History of Prilly

Prilly was first mentioned a very long time ago, around the years 976-977. Back then, it was known by a different name, Presliacus. Later, by 1185, its name had changed to Prillie.

Prilly covers an area of about 2.19 square kilometers (0.85 square miles). A small part of this land, about 11%, is used for farming. Another small part, about 6.4%, is covered by forests. Most of Prilly, about 82.2%, is built up with buildings and roads.

The built-up areas include buildings for businesses and homes. Roads and other ways to get around make up a good part of it too. There are also parks and sports fields where people can play.

Prilly used to be part of the Lausanne District. But in 2006, it became part of a new area called Ouest Lausannois. The town of Prilly grew along the road that connects Lausanne and Jougne. It is now part of the larger city area of Lausanne. Prilly also includes smaller areas called Le Chasseur, La Fleur-de-Lys, and L'Union. These areas grew along the road to Neuchâtel.
