Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur is one of the 18 main administrative regions of France. It is located in the far southeastern part of mainland France. The capital city of this region is Marseille.
This region is mostly made up of the old French area called Provence. It also includes other nearby places. These are the former papal land of Avignon, the area around Nice (which is known as the French Riviera or Côte d'Azur), and a part of the French Alps. The region was once known by the short name PACA. In 2017, it started using the nickname Région Sud.
