Putnam is a small town in northern Washington County, New York, USA. It is part of the Glens Falls area. In 2020, about 567 people lived there. The town is named after Israel Putnam, a hero from the American Revolution.

History of Putnam
The area where Putnam is located was once part of a special land grant in 1764. This grant was given to officers who fought in the French and Indian War. At that time, the region was known as Charlotte County.
The town of Putnam was officially created in 1806. It was formed from a larger town called Westfield, which is now known as Fort Ann.
The Hiram Congdon House is an important old building in Putnam. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. This means it's a special place worth protecting because of its history.
Geography of Putnam

Putnam covers about 35.5 square miles (91.73 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, about 33.2 square miles (84.93 square kilometers). The rest, about 2.3 square miles (6.80 square kilometers), is water.
The northern edge of Putnam borders Essex County. To the east, the town's boundary is defined by Lake Champlain, which also forms the border with Vermont. On the western side, Lake George and Warren County mark the town's limits. Putnam is located inside the beautiful Adirondack Park.
NY Route 22 is a main highway that runs north and south through the middle of the town.

Education in Putnam
Children in Putnam attend schools run by the Putnam Central School District. This school district covers the same area as the town. It has a board of five members who make decisions about the schools.
Putnam Central School teaches students from kindergarten through 6th grade. After 6th grade, students in 7th grade and higher travel by bus to the Ticonderoga Central School District. This district is located in Ticonderoga, a nearby town.
