Raphaël Adelino José Guerreiro (born 22 December 1993) is a professional footballer. He plays as a left-back or midfielder. He currently plays for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Portugal national team.
Raphaël started his career at Caen in France. In 2013, he joined Lorient and played his first game in Ligue 1. In June 2016, he moved to Borussia Dortmund in Germany. There, he won two German Cups (DFB-Pokal) and the German Supercup. He played 224 games and scored 40 goals for Dortmund. In 2023, he joined Bayern Munich.
Even though he was born in France, Guerreiro plays for Portugal. He played for their under-21 team and then the senior team starting in 2014. He was part of the Portugal squads for two World Cups and two European Championships. He helped Portugal win Euro 2016.

Starting at Caen
Raphaël was born in Le Blanc-Mesnil, France. His father is Portuguese and his mother is French. He started playing youth football at a young age. He joined Caen when he was 15 years old in 2009.
He began his senior career with Caen's reserve team. In the 2012–13 season, he played almost every game for the main team. Caen finished fourth in Ligue 2, and Raphaël was chosen for the league's Team of the Year.
Moving to Lorient
On 27 June 2013, Guerreiro signed a four-year contract with Lorient. This move meant he would play in Ligue 1, France's top league. His first game in Ligue 1 was on 10 August, playing the full match against Lille.
On 1 November 2014, Raphaël scored his first goal for Lorient. It was against Paris Saint-Germain, the league champions. He scored seven goals in the 2014–15 season. These goals helped his team avoid being relegated to a lower league.
Success at Borussia Dortmund
On 16 June 2016, Borussia Dortmund signed Guerreiro. He joined them on a four-year contract. He often played as a midfielder for Dortmund.
Raphaël scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League on 14 September 2016. This was in a big 6–0 win against Legia Warsaw. In the 2018–19 Champions League, he scored two goals in games against Atlético Madrid and Monaco.
In the 2022–23 season, Guerreiro scored four goals and made 12 assists. In the final match, Dortmund drew 2–2 with Mainz 05. However, Bayern Munich won their game, so they became champions instead. After this season, Dortmund announced that Raphaël would be leaving the club.
Joining Bayern Munich
On 23 June 2023, Bayern Munich announced that Raphaël Guerreiro had joined them. He signed a three-year deal as a free agent. He played his first game for Bayern on 26 September. He came on as a substitute in a 4–0 win against Preußen Münster in the DFB-Pokal.
He scored his first goal for Bayern on 11 November. He came into the game in the second half and scored Bayern's third goal in a 4–2 league win against 1. FC Heidenheim. In the 2024–25 season, Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title. Raphaël Guerreiro scored two goals in a match against VfL Bochum on 8 March 2025.
Playing for Portugal
Raphaël Guerreiro has been a key player for the Portugal national team.
Youth and Senior Team Debut
Guerreiro first played for the Portugal under-21 team in March 2013. Even though he didn't speak much Portuguese, he was called up to the senior national team in November 2014. This was for a Euro 2016 qualifier and a friendly game.
He made his debut for the senior team on 14 November 2014. Portugal won 1–0 against Armenia. Four days later, he scored his first goal for Portugal. It was the only goal in a friendly match against Argentina at Old Trafford.
He returned to the under-21 team for the 2015 UEFA European Championship. Portugal finished second in that tournament. Raphaël was one of five Portuguese players chosen for the Team of the Tournament.
Euro 2016 Victory
Guerreiro was chosen for Portugal's squad for UEFA Euro 2016. He played the full 90 minutes in their first game, a 1–1 draw with Iceland. Portugal went on to win the competition. They beat hosts France 1–0 in the final after extra time. Because of his great performances, he was nominated for the Young Player of the Tournament Award.
World Cups and Other Tournaments
Despite having some injuries, Guerreiro was selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He started four matches in Russia, where Portugal reached the round of 16.
He also made the squad for UEFA Euro 2020. He scored in Portugal's 3–0 win over Hungary. However, he scored an own goal in their next game, a 4–2 loss to Germany.
In November 2022, Guerreiro was part of the squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On 6 December, he scored Portugal's fourth goal in a big 6–1 win against Switzerland in the round of 16.
Raphaël had an ankle injury in May 2024. This injury meant he could not play in Euro 2024.
Personal Life
In 2014, Raphaël Guerreiro shared that he supported Benfica. He also said he dreamed of playing for Real Madrid. His favorite player was Cristiano Ronaldo.
His former Portugal under-21 manager, Rui Jorge, said Raphaël was a very quiet person. This was partly because he had trouble with the Portuguese language at first. Guerreiro and his family used to watch Portugal national team matches. He admired the footballer Pauleta.
