Raphaël Adelino José Guerreiro is a professional footballer born on December 22, 1993. He plays as a left-back or midfielder for the German club Bayern Munich. He also plays for the Portugal national team.
Raphaël started his football journey at Caen. In 2013, he joined Lorient, where he played his first game in Ligue 1, France's top football league. In June 2016, he moved to Borussia Dortmund in Germany. There, he helped his team win the DFB-Pokal twice and the 2019 DFL-Supercup. He played 224 games and scored 40 goals for Dortmund. In 2023, he moved to Bayern Munich.
Even though he was born in France, Guerreiro plays for Portugal. He played for their under-21 team and then for the main senior team starting in 2014. He has played in two World Cups and two European Championships. He was part of the team that won Euro 2016.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Caen
Raphaël Guerreiro was born in Le Blanc-Mesnil, France. His father is Portuguese and his mother is French. He started playing youth football with three different clubs. He finished his training at Caen, joining them in 2009 when he was 15 years old.
He began playing for Caen's reserve team. Then, in the 2012–13 season, he played his first professional games. He played in almost all the matches that season for Caen in Ligue 2, which is the second division in France. He was even chosen for the "Team of the Year" for that league.
Moving to Lorient
On June 27, 2013, Guerreiro joined Lorient, a team in Ligue 1, the top French league. He signed a four-year contract. His first game in Ligue 1 was on August 10, where he played the whole match against Lille.
On November 1, 2014, Raphaël scored his first goal for Lorient against Paris Saint-Germain. He scored seven goals in the 2014–15 season, which helped his team avoid being moved down to a lower league. One of these goals helped Lorient win against his old club, Caen.
Time at Borussia Dortmund
On June 16, 2016, Borussia Dortmund in Germany signed Guerreiro. He signed a four-year contract. His coach, Thomas Tuchel, often used him as a midfielder for the team.
Raphaël scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League on September 14, 2016. This was in a big 6–0 win against Legia Warsaw. In the 2018–19 Champions League, he scored two goals in games against Atlético Madrid and Monaco.
On May 27, 2023, in the last game of the season, Guerreiro scored his fourth goal of the season. He also helped with 12 assists. Dortmund drew their game, but Bayern Munich won their match, so Bayern became the Bundesliga champions instead. The next day, Dortmund announced that Raphaël and four other players would be leaving the club.
Joining Bayern Munich
On June 23, 2023, Bayern Munich announced that Raphaël Guerreiro would be joining their team for free. He signed a three-year contract. He played his first game for Bayern on September 26, coming on as a substitute in a 4–0 win in the DFB-Pokal cup. He scored his first goal for Bayern on November 11, helping his team win 4–2 against 1. FC Heidenheim.
International Career for Portugal
Raphaël Guerreiro was asked to play for the Portugal under-21 team. He played his first game for them on March 21, 2013. Even though he didn't speak much Portuguese, he was called up to the main Portugal team in November 2014. He played his first game for the senior team on November 14, helping Portugal win 1–0. Four days later, he scored his first goal for Portugal in the last minute against Argentina, winning the game 1–0.
Guerreiro played for the under-21 team again in the 2015 UEFA European Championship. Portugal finished second in that tournament. He was one of five Portuguese players chosen for the "Team of the Tournament."
Raphaël was chosen to play for Portugal in the UEFA Euro 2016 tournament. He played in the first game, a 1–1 draw. Portugal went on to win the competition, beating hosts France 1–0 in the final. Because of how well he played, he was nominated for the "Young Player of the Tournament" award.
Even though he had some injuries in the 2017–18 season, Guerreiro was chosen for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played in four matches in Russia, where Portugal was knocked out in the round of 16.
Guerreiro also played in UEFA Euro 2020. He scored in Portugal's 3–0 win against Hungary. However, he accidentally scored an own goal in the next game against Germany.
In November 2022, Guerreiro was part of the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On December 6, he scored a goal in Portugal's big 6–1 win against Switzerland.
In May 2024, Raphaël got an ankle injury. This meant he could not play in Euro 2024.
Personal Life
In 2014, Raphaël Guerreiro shared that he supported the football club Benfica. He also said he dreamed of playing for Real Madrid. His favorite player was Cristiano Ronaldo. His coach for the Portugal under-21 team, Rui Jorge, said that Raphaël was a very quiet person, partly because he found it hard to speak Portuguese.
Guerreiro and his family used to watch games of the Portugal national team. He admired the footballer Pauleta.
