Rosalie was officially created in 1906. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad built its railway lines to reach this spot. The village was carefully planned out at that time.
How Rosalie Got Its Name
The village of Rosalie was named after a very important person: Rosalie La Flesche Farley. She was the daughter of Joseph La Flesche, who was the last main chief of the Omaha tribe chosen in the traditional way during the 1800s. He was also the only chief who had some European family background.
After the Omaha tribe moved to their reservation, Rosalie La Flesche took on a big role. She became the tribe's financial manager. This meant she helped handle money matters, like managing agreements for grazing land and other business deals. She later married Edward Farley, who was from Bancroft, Nebraska.

Rosalie La Flesche Farley came from a family of remarkable people. One of her sisters was Susette LaFlesche Tibbles, also known as "Bright Eyes." Susette was a famous author and activist who worked to protect the rights of Native Americans. She married a journalist named Thomas Tibbles.
Another one of Rosalie's sisters was Susan LaFlesche Picotte. Susan was an amazing woman who became a doctor. She was the first Native American woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. She married a man from the Yankton Sioux tribe.
