Rossella's Fencing Journey

Rossella started her sports journey with ballet and rhythmic gymnastics. When she was seven, her dad encouraged her to try fencing. Her brother already went to a fencing school called AS Methodos Catania. Gianni Sperlinga became her coach and still coaches her today.

Early Wins and Junior Success

In 2004, Rossella joined the Italian national team for younger fencers. She won the European Championships for cadets (younger fencers) in 2007. The next year, she won the World Championships for cadets in her home country, Italy. She also won gold medals in both individual and team events at the Junior European Championships in 2009 and 2010. In 2010, she won the European Under-23 Championships.

Joining the Senior Team

Rossella joined the main national team in the 2010–11 season. At the 2011 European Championships, she made it to the quarter-finals. The next season, she won her first medal in a Fencing World Cup event, a bronze in Doha. She then won a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

Olympic Games Debut

Rossella qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics with her team. In the individual event, she narrowly lost in the quarter-finals. Her team finished seventh in the team event.

Becoming a World Champion

In the 2013–14 season, Rossella won the 2014 World Fencing Championships. She beat some very strong fencers, including Olympic champions. She won again at the 2015 World Championships in Moscow.
