Sabina is a small village located in Clinton County, Ohio. In 2020, about 2,499 people lived there. It is sometimes called "The Eden of Ohio."

Discovering Sabina's Past

Sabina was founded in 1830 by Warren Sabin. The village was named after him. The first map of the town was officially recorded on December 6, 1830. It showed 37 building lots. By 1833, Sabina already had two stores and two places to eat.

In 1859, Sabina officially became an incorporated town. This meant it could have its own local government. M. Morris was chosen as the first Mayor.

Ancient History of the Area

Near Sabina, there is a special place called the Beam Farm Woodland Archaeological District. This area has old archaeological sites. Long ago, people from the Adena and Hopewell groups lived here. This district is so important that it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Where is Sabina Located?

Sabina is found along Routes 22 and 3. It is about ten miles east of Wilmington, which is the main city of Clinton County. The village is also within an hour's drive of bigger cities like Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati.

According to the United States Census Bureau, Sabina covers a total area of about 1.29 square miles (3.34 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit of water. Sabina is also 31 miles south of Springfield. It is 47 miles southwest of Columbus.

Clinton-Fayette Friendship Trail

The [Clinton-Fayette Friendship Trail] is a great place for walking or biking. It starts at Melvin Road and goes through Sabina. The trail ends at Borum Road. You can find parking at Melvin, Reesville, Sabina Park, and Borum Road.

Sabina Village Park

The Sabina Park has a covered area with a stage. It also has playground equipment, including swings that are easy for everyone to use. There is a walking path too. A footbridge connects Sabina Park to the nearby Richland Township park.

In 2010, the census showed that 2,564 people lived in Sabina. There were 1,028 households, and 676 of these were families. The village had about 2,003 people per square mile.

Most of the people living in Sabina were White (97.0%). A smaller number were African American, Native American, or Asian. About 0.9% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.

About 32.4% of households had children under 18 living with them. The average household had 2.45 people. The average family had 2.96 people. The median age in the village was 38.5 years old.

Sabina has its own telephone exchange and Post Office. These services cover parts of Clinton, Fayette, and Greene counties. The village also has the Sabina Community Pool.

Learning in Sabina

Sabina is part of the East Clinton Local School District. East Clinton High School and Middle School are located about 5 miles south of town in Lees Creek. Sabina Elementary School is right in the village. It has around 400 students.

Some students from the Fayette County area of Sabina attend Miami Trace High School. A few students also go to Greeneview High School in nearby Jamestown, Ohio. Sabina is also home to the Sabina Public Library. This library serves the people of Sabina and the surrounding areas. The Sabina Public Library also has a branch in New Vienna, Ohio.
