Scooby-Doo! and the Goblin King is an animated fantasy film released in 2008. It's the twelfth movie in the Scooby-Doo series that went straight to DVD. This movie was made by Warner Bros. Animation.
It was dedicated to Paulette Oates, who helped bring Warner Bros. Animation back in the late 1980s. All the main voice actors for Mystery, Inc. returned for their roles. The DVD came out on September 23, 2008. This film is special because it's the first Scooby-Doo cartoon made without the original creators, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera.
Unlike some other Scooby-Doo movies, this one is like Zombie Island and Witch's Ghost. In this film, all the magical things that happen are real, not just costumes or tricks.

The Story of Scooby-Doo and the Goblin King
The Mystery, Inc. gang, including Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne, and Velma, visit a Halloween carnival in Coolsville. They meet a magician named "The Amazing Krudsky." He won't let Scooby watch his show.
Scooby and Shaggy get back at Krudsky by showing everyone he's a fake. His audience leaves, and Krudsky gets very angry, vowing revenge. The gang then leaves the carnival to go trick-or-treating.
Krudsky's Magic Plan
Inside his tent, Krudsky wishes he could be a real magician. A Fairy Princess named Willow appears. She helps Krudsky find a spellbook entry about the Goblin Scepter. This scepter, combined with fairy magic, can control Halloween.
Krudsky decides he wants the scepter to rule the world. Willow tries to trick him but accidentally knocks herself out. Krudsky sees she is a real fairy and takes her magic powers. Now, he is a real magician!
Shaggy and Scooby Enter the Spirit World
Shaggy and Scooby's last trick-or-treat stop is a spooky "genuine magic shoppe." A thunderstorm starts, scaring them. The shop owner, Mr. Gibbles, tells them that magic is real.
Krudsky then enters the shop, chasing Willow. He captures her, turns Mr. Gibbles into a rabbit, and steals magic items. Mr. Gibbles explains Krudsky's plan to Shaggy and Scooby. He shows them a vision of Krudsky turning their friends into monsters.
Mr. Gibbles sends Shaggy and Scooby on the Grim Reaper Railway to the spirit world. He warns them to return before sunrise, or they'll be stuck there forever. Before they leave, they get temporary magic cards that make them look like monsters.
Fred, Daphne, and Velma's Trap
Meanwhile, Fred, Daphne, and Velma are looking for Shaggy and Scooby. They see Krudsky talking to the Goblin King through a mirror. The Goblin King agrees to trade his scepter for Princess Willow at midnight.
Velma faints from seeing all the magic. Fred and Daphne leave her in the Mystery Machine to rest. They then set a trap for both the Goblin King and Krudsky.
Adventures in the Magic World
In the magic world, Shaggy and Scooby's disguises disappear. They meet a werewolf and pretend to be a werewolf themselves to get past him. During a song called "Bump in the Night," Shaggy sings about how to get to the Goblin King's castle. This makes all the other monsters run out of the bar.
The Goblin King's two clumsy goblin helpers, Glob and Glum, try to catch Scooby and Shaggy. But Jack O'Lantern stops them. The three then meet the Headless Horseman, who is trying to find Jack.
They escape the Horseman and arrive at the Witches' Hut. They meet the Grand Witch and her two friends. The witches send Shaggy and Scooby on a flying broomstick toward the Goblin King's castle. But Glob and Glum shoot them down with a goblin cannon.
Reaching the Goblin King's Castle
Shaggy and Scooby crash-land in a small fairy village. Three fairies named Sparkplug, Honeybee, and Tiddlywink help them get to the Goblin King's castle. Using a potion from the witches, Shaggy and Scooby disguise themselves as Daphne and Velma to enter the castle.
With only minutes until midnight, Shaggy and Scooby try to steal the scepter from the Goblin King. But their disguises wear off, and they are caught. They are sent to the tower dungeon.
Krudsky Becomes the New Goblin King
Back in the real world, Krudsky and the Goblin King are almost done with their trade. Fred and Daphne spring their trap, but they only catch the Goblin King. Krudsky takes the scepter and turns himself into the new Goblin King. He then turns the old Goblin King into a goose.
Krudsky and his new goblin army plan to take over the world. He turns the Mystery Machine into a living monster vehicle called the "Monstrous Machine." It chases Fred, Daphne, Velma, and Willow. The goblins capture them, and Krudsky uses his new powers to turn Fred into a vampire, Daphne into a witch, and Velma into a werewolf. This is the scary vision Mr. Gibbles showed Scooby and Shaggy earlier.
Saving the Day and Restoring Balance
Just then, Scooby, Shaggy, and Jack O'Lantern arrive. The fairies and Broomy saved them from the dungeon before sunrise. Jack sacrifices himself, making Krudsky drop the scepter. Scooby then uses the scepter to undo Krudsky's spells.
Scooby returns the scepter to the Goblin King, who is actually Princess Willow's father! The Goblin King blames Willow for all the trouble and grounds her for a year. But he is also happy to have her back. Mr. Gibbles brings Jack back to life with the Goblin King's help.
The Goblin King takes Krudsky prisoner for his crimes. He, the goblin army, Willow, Jack, Broomy, and Mr. Gibbles all return to the magical world. Before they leave, the Goblin King uses a spell to make Fred, Daphne, and Velma forget everything that happened. This keeps the balance between the two worlds. However, Scooby and Shaggy are allowed to remember because they showed great courage.
