Shiamak Davar is a famous Indian choreographer. He is known for being one of the first people to bring modern jazz and other Western dance styles to India. Many people call him the "guru" of contemporary dance in India. He helped change how dance was seen in Indian films and plays. His unique and popular "Shiamak Style" of dance is well-known.
Shiamak Davar was the main choreographer for big events like the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and Delhi. In 2011, he even created the dance moves for the Hollywood movie Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
He has choreographed many Indian actors and celebrities for movies and stage shows, including events like the IIFA Awards. Famous Bollywood actors such as Shahid Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, and Varun Dhawan were once part of his dance company, the Shiamak Davar Dance Company.
Shiamak Davar won a special award called the National Film Award for Best Choreography in 1997 for his work in the film Dil to Pagal Hai. He also received an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University in 2011. This award recognized his big contributions to entertainment in India and around the world.

His Amazing Dance Work
Shiamak Davar started his career in choreography for Hindi films with Dil To Pagal Hai. For this movie, he won the President's National Award. He changed how dance was viewed in Indian movies.
He went on to choreograph many other Hindi films, including Taal, Dhoom 2, Taare Zameen Par, and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
Shiamak also acted and choreographed in the movie Little Ziziou. He even released a popular pop album called Shabop, where he sang and composed songs with other Indian artists.
He has been the main designer for performances and entertainment at many large shows. These include the IIFA Awards and the Shiamak Davar China Tour.
Shiamak has also directed and performed at huge global events. He was part of the closing ceremonies for the 2006 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony and the 2010 Commonwealth Games closing ceremony. He also performed at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2006. He has entertained important leaders, including Bill Clinton. He also performed at the 44th Chess Olympiad and the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup.
Singing and Performing
Shiamak is known for his exciting and high-energy live performances. He often says that Elton John is his hero, and you can see Elton John's influence in Shiamak's style.
As a singer, Shiamak released his first English album, Survive, in 1991. He then released his first Hindi pop album, Mohabbat Karle, which sold many copies in India. He has also shared the stage with famous international artists like Sting and Bryan Adams. He even opened for Bryan Adams' concerts in India in 2011. In 2012, he performed for Oprah Winfrey when she visited India.
Helping Others Through Dance
Shiamak Davar is also known for his charity work. He runs a special organization called the VAF (Victory Arts Foundation). This foundation teaches dance to children who are less fortunate or have mental and physical disabilities. The goal is to help them feel happy and express themselves through "dance as therapy."
