Soco Gap is a mountain pass located in North Carolina, USA. A mountain pass is like a low spot or a natural path through a mountain range. Soco Gap sits at an elevation of about 4,340 feet (1,323 meters) above sea level. It is found between two mountain ranges: the Plott Balsams to the south and the Great Balsam Mountains to the north.
This gap is an important place because it marks the eastern edge of the Qualla Boundary. This boundary outlines the special land that is held in a land trust for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians. This group of Cherokee people is officially recognized by the United States government. Soco Gap also divides Haywood County and Jackson County. It also separates the areas where water flows into two different major rivers: the French Broad River and the Little Tennessee River.
