Soleil Moon Frye (born August 6, 1976) is an American actress, director, and writer. She started her acting career when she was only two years old.
At age seven, Frye became famous for playing Penelope "Punky" Brewster in the TV show Punky Brewster. The show first aired in 1984 on NBC. Even though the show didn't get high ratings, the character of Punky was very popular with kids. After NBC stopped making the show, it was sold to other TV channels and aired for two more seasons until 1988. In 2021, Frye played Punky again in a new version of the show.
After Punky Brewster, Frye continued to act in TV shows and movies. In 2000, she joined the cast of the show Sabrina the Teenage Witch. She played Roxie King, who was the best friend and roommate of Sabrina Spellman. Frye was on the show until it ended in 2003.
Frye is also a talented voice actor. She is well-known for being the voice of Zoey Howzer in the popular animated series The Proud Family and its newer version, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder.
Besides acting, Frye has directed movies and started her own clothing company for children. She also wrote a book called Happy Chaos: From Punky to Parenting and My Perfectly Imperfect Adventures in Between.

Early Life and Education
Frye was born in Glendora, California. Her father, Virgil Frye, was an actor, and her mother, Sondra Peluce, was a talent agent. She has two older half-brothers, Sean Frye and Meeno Peluce, who were also child actors. Her parents separated when she was two years old.
Frye went to private schools in Los Angeles, including the San Fernando Valley Professional School, which was designed for students working in the arts. Later, she studied at The New School in New York City.
Career
Acting Career
Frye's first role was in a 1982 TV movie called Missing Children: A Mother's Story. A year later, she appeared in another TV movie, Who Will Love My Children?.
The Famous Role of Punky Brewster
In 1984, Frye auditioned for the role of Punky Brewster. She was chosen out of more than 3,000 other girls. The show was about a fun and independent young girl being raised by a foster father.
The character of Punky became a big hit with children. Frye became a role model and even worked with First Lady Nancy Reagan on an anti-drug campaign. She also voiced Punky in an animated cartoon series called It's Punky Brewster.
Even though many kids loved the show, it didn't get enough viewers for NBC. The network canceled it in 1986. However, the show was so popular that it was brought back for two more seasons on other channels, a process called syndication. The final episode aired in 1988.
Life After Punky Brewster
After Punky Brewster ended, Frye continued to act. She appeared as a guest star on popular shows like The Wonder Years, Saved by the Bell, and Friends. She also did voice work for cartoons like Tiny Toon Adventures.
From 2000 to 2003, Frye played Roxie King on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch. Her character was a college student and the loyal friend of Sabrina, played by her real-life friend Melissa Joan Hart.
Voice Acting Success
Frye has had a successful career as a voice actress. While she was on Sabrina, she also voiced the character Zoey Howzer in the Disney Channel cartoon The Proud Family. She returned to voice Zoey again in The Proud Family Movie in 2005 and in the new series The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, which started in 2022.
She was also the voice of Jade in the Bratz movies and video games from 2005 to 2007.
Directing and Writing
In the late 1990s, Frye attended The New School in New York and decided to try directing. Her first film was called Wild Horses, which she also wrote.
In 2004, she directed a documentary called Sonny Boy. A documentary is a non-fiction film about a real subject. This film was about a trip she took with her father, Virgil, who had Alzheimer's disease. The film won an award for Best Documentary at the San Diego Film Festival.
In 2021, Frye directed another documentary called Kid 90. For this film, she used hundreds of hours of video she had recorded as a teenager in the 1990s. The film gives a real look at what it was like to be a young star during that time.
Other Work
In 2007, Frye started a children's clothing store in Los Angeles called The Little Seed. The store sold eco-friendly and organic clothing. It later became an online business.
She has also written two books. Her first book, Happy Chaos, was about her life and her experiences with parenting. Her second book was about planning parties. Frye also runs a blog where she writes about parenting and women's issues.
