Meet the Characters
Main Heroes and Villains
Sega announced the voice actors and characters for Sonic Boom in 2014. Jack Fletcher directed the voice acting for the show.
- Sonic the Hedgehog (voiced by Roger Craig Smith) is the speedy leader of Team Sonic. He is a blue hedgehog with super speed. Sonic is kind and brave, but he can sometimes be a bit impatient or sarcastic. In Sonic Boom, Sonic has blue fur on his arms and wears a brown scarf and sports tape.
- Doctor Eggman (voiced by Mike Pollock) is the main villain and a mad scientist. He is always trying to defeat Sonic. In this series, Eggman is often silly and thinks highly of himself. He sometimes pretends to be friendly with the heroes, but it's usually part of a plan to take over the island. He dreams of building his own theme park there.
- Miles "Tails" Prower (voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey) is Sonic's best friend and sidekick. He is a yellow fox with two tails. Tails is the team's mechanic and technology expert, always wearing goggles and a tool belt. His inventions don't always work perfectly, but he is very smart and good in a fight.
- Knuckles the Echidna (voiced by Travis Willingham) is a red echidna and the strong member of Team Sonic. His look in Sonic Boom is quite different; he is taller and more muscular. Knuckles is brave but sometimes not very smart or aware of things, which can annoy his friends. He often provides funny moments in the show.
- Amy Rose (voiced by Cindy Robinson) is a pink female hedgehog and a cheerful member of the group. Amy uses a giant hammer in battles. She has a crush on Sonic, but in Sonic Boom, she tries to keep it a secret. Amy is often the most sensible member of the team, helping everyone stay focused.
- Sticks the Badger (voiced by Nika Futterman) is a wild badger from the jungle. She is very good with boomerangs and staffs. Sticks can be a bit paranoid, but her unique way of thinking often helps the team solve problems.
- Orbot (voiced by Kirk Thornton) and Cubot (voiced by Wally Wingert) are Eggman's robot helpers. Orbot is red and round, while Cubot is yellow and cube-shaped. They aren't very mean or smart, but they follow Eggman's plans anyway.

How Sonic Boom Was Made
The idea for this computer-animated series was first announced in October 2013. It showed silhouettes of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. The series has 52 episodes, each 11 minutes long. Evan Baily, Donna Friedman Meir, and Sandrine Nguyen developed the show. Evan Baily and Bill Freiberger were the showrunners. Takashi Iizuka, who leads Sonic Team, oversaw the project. Many voice actors from the Sonic video games returned for the show. These included Roger Craig Smith as Sonic, Travis Willingham as Knuckles, Cindy Robinson as Amy, and Mike Pollock as Doctor Eggman. Colleen Villard took over the role of Tails. A new character, Sticks the Badger, was introduced and voiced by Nika Futterman. The creators wanted the show to appeal more to audiences in Western countries. They also planned for it to run alongside the 'Modern' series of Sonic games. A second season of Sonic Boom was announced in October 2015 and premiered on October 29, 2016. The rest of season two later aired on Boomerang. As of 2020, there were no plans for more seasons after the two-season run.

Sonic Boom in Other Media
Video Games
Two video games were released in November 2014 as stories that happened before the TV series. Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric was for the Wii U, and Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal was for the Nintendo 3DS. In Rise of Lyric, players could switch between Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy, using their unique skills. Shattered Crystal focused more on jumping and solving puzzles. A third game, Fire & Ice, came out for the Nintendo 3DS in September 2016. There was also a mobile game called Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom, released in July 2015. The character Sticks, who first appeared in the show, has also been featured in other Sonic games like Sonic Runners and Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The series ended with its 11th issue in September 2015, but stories with the characters continued in other Sonic magazines.
