Sophie Belinda Turner (born 21 February 1996) is an English actress. She is well-known for playing Sansa Stark in the popular TV show Game of Thrones. This role earned her an Emmy Award nomination in 2019.
Sophie also starred as a young Jean Grey in the X-Men movies. These include X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019).

Early Life and Education
Sophie Belinda Turner was born in Northampton, England, on February 21, 1996. Her mother, Sally, was a nursery school teacher. Her father, Andrew, worked for a pallet company.
When Sophie was two years old, her family moved to Chesterton, Warwickshire. She went to Warwick Prep School until she was 11. Later, she attended The King's High School for Girls. Sophie has been part of the Playbox Theatre Company since she was three. She has two older brothers.
While filming Game of Thrones, Sophie had a tutor until she was 16. She did very well in her school exams.
Acting Career Highlights
Starting with Game of Thrones
Sophie was chosen to play Sansa Stark in the HBO fantasy show Game of Thrones in August 2009. Filming started in July 2010, when she was 14. This was Sophie's very first TV role. Her drama teacher encouraged her to try out for the part. She dyed her blonde hair red for the role.
In 2012, Sophie was nominated for a Young Artist Award. This was for her performance as Sansa, alongside her co-star Maisie Williams. Sophie appeared in all eight seasons of the show. While working on the show, she faced challenges with her well-being.
First Film Roles
In 2013, Sophie got her first movie role. She starred in the independent thriller Another Me. This movie was based on a book. She also played Adeline March in the TV film The Thirteenth Tale that same year.
In 2013, she was cast in the comedy film Barely Lethal. She starred alongside Hailee Steinfeld. The movie was released in 2015.
Voice Work and Campaigns
Sophie has also narrated audiobooks. She narrated 'The Girl in the Mirror' by Lev Grossman. This story was part of an anthology called Dangerous Women. In 2014, she narrated City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. That same year, she became the face of Karen Millen's "The Journey" campaign.
In 2016, Sophie hosted a web video series called Powershift. This was in partnership with the Huffington Post.
Later Film and TV Projects
Sophie played the mutant Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, which came out in May 2016. She played Jean Grey again in the X-Men film Dark Phoenix, released in June 2019.
In November 2017, Sophie was cast to play Juliane Koepcke in the movie Girl Who Fell From the Sky. She is also helping to produce this movie. In 2018, she filmed the independent movie Heavy.
In September 2019, Sophie was cast in the thriller TV show Survive. In 2022, she had a small role in the comedy Do Revenge. In 2024, Sophie starred in the ITV drama Joan. She played the main character, Joan Hannington, a diamond thief.
Personal Life
Sophie Turner started dating American singer Joe Jonas in 2016. They got engaged in October 2017. They were married on May 1, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They also had a second wedding ceremony in Carpentras, France, on June 29, 2019.
The couple has two daughters. Their first daughter was born in July 2020, and their second in July 2022. Joe Jonas wrote the song "Hesitate" as a love letter to Sophie. This song is on the Jonas Brothers reunion album, Happiness Begins.
In September 2023, Joe Jonas filed for divorce from Sophie. Both Sophie and Joe confirmed it was a mutual decision. Later that month, they had a disagreement about their daughters returning to the UK. They reached a temporary agreement in October. Their divorce was finalized in September 2024.
As of November 2024, Sophie is in a relationship with Peregrine Pearson. He is the son of Michael Pearson, 4th Viscount Cowdray.
