Soubey is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It is part of the Franches-Montagnes district in the Jura canton.

History of Soubey

Soubey was first written about in the year 1340. Back then, it was called Subeis. Later, in 1369, its name was mentioned as Subiez.

Soubey covers an area of about 13.51 square kilometers (5.22 square miles). A large part of this land, about 38.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover even more land, about 56.8% of the area. Only a small portion, about 2.2%, has buildings or roads. Rivers and lakes make up 2.3% of the land.

Most of the forested land is covered with thick trees. Some areas also have orchards or small groups of trees. For farming, some land is used for growing crops. Other parts are used as pastures for animals. All the water in Soubey is from flowing rivers.

The town is located in the Franches-Montagnes district. It sits right on the Doubs river. Soubey includes the main village and several smaller areas called hamlets. On one side of the river are Clairbief, Chercenay, Froidevaux, and Le Chaufour. On the other side are Lobschez and Les Moulins.

Some nearby towns are thinking about joining together. This would create a new, larger town called Franches-Montagnes in the future.
