Stanley Anderson (born October 23, 1939 – died June 24, 2018) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different kinds of characters. Many people remember him as Drew Carey's dad on the TV show The Drew Carey Show.

Early Life and Education

Stanley Anderson was born in Billings, Montana. He went to Garfield Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High, and Billings Senior High School. He later studied at San Jose State University. In the 1960s, he earned a master's degree in theatre there.

Before becoming an actor, he spent two years serving in the military in Korea. He worked in broadcasting, which was like the movie Good Morning, Vietnam. After returning from Korea, he worked in advertising in California.

Stanley Anderson's Acting Career

Anderson started his acting career in 1967. For 23 years, before 1990, he worked mostly in live theatre. He performed in over 200 plays at famous places like Arena Stage and ACT.

After college, he and his wife, actress Judith Long, moved to Seattle, Washington. They spent three years acting at the Seattle Repertory Theatre. Then, they moved to Louisville, Kentucky, for two years. After that, Anderson joined the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C..

His first big role at Arena Stage was playing Randle McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Anderson stayed with Arena Stage for 17 years. He appeared in almost 100 of their plays! During this time, he lived with his family in Springfield, Virginia. Later, in the 2000s, they moved to the Los Angeles area in California.

Movies and TV Shows

Stanley Anderson appeared in many movies. These include Deceived, RoboCop 3, and The Pelican Brief. He also worked with director Michael Bay in two big action movies: The Rock and Armageddon. In both of these films, he played the important role of the US President.

He also made guest appearances on popular TV shows. These include The Practice and The X-Files. He was also "Judge Vandelay" in the Seinfeld episode "The Finale". Besides acting, Anderson used his voice for many documentaries. He narrated shows for channels like National Geographic, Discovery Channel, and the History Channel.

Later Years and Passing

Stanley Anderson passed away on June 24, 2018. He was 78 years old. He died from brain cancer.
