Stefanía also won special awards like "Miss Elegance", "Best Body", and "Best Face". She was the second person from Trujillo to win the Miss Venezuela title. On August 23, 2009, Stefanía was crowned Miss Universe 2009 in Nassau, Bahamas. The person who crowned her was Dayana Mendoza, who was Miss Universe 2008 and also from Venezuela. This was a special moment because it was the first time in Miss Universe history that the same country won the crown two years in a row!

As Miss Universe, Stefanía received many prizes. These included money, a contract to promote Miss Universe for a year, and chances to travel the world. She also got a fancy apartment in New York City for free. She received designer clothes, shoes, and beauty products. She also got money for a two-year course at the New York Film Academy.

Stefanía promised to use her year as Miss Universe to travel and help people. She wanted to raise awareness about important issues like HIV/AIDS. Stefanía was the last teenager to win the Miss Universe crown.

After winning, Stefanía was interviewed by many news channels around the world. These included CNN en Español, Fox News, and Univision. When she returned to Venezuela, her arrival was shown on TV. She even had a special five-hour show on Venevisión, a main TV network.

Stefanía earned a Guinness record for being the first Miss Universe winner crowned by someone from her own country. This was Dayana Mendoza, Miss Universe 2008.

The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, congratulated Stefanía. He offered his support for her work against AIDS. In October, she traveled to Indonesia. There, she crowned the Indonesian representative for the Miss Universe 2010 pageant.

She also visited Bali in Indonesia to film a commercial. Back in New York, she attended a press conference about HIV. She appeared with Ban Ki-moon, who was the Secretary-General of the United Nations. She also met famous Venezuelan fashion designer Carolina Herrera.

On November 5, 2009, Stefanía was a presenter at the Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas. She shared the stage with Puerto Rican singer Víctor Manuelle. She also received an award in Maracaibo, Venezuela, at a big festival.

Stefanía traveled to Cannes, France, and to Willemstad, Curaçao. She also visited Barquisimeto, Venezuela, for a special procession. In February 2010, she went to Puerto Rico to host a TV show. She also appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in New York.

Stefanía traveled to many cities like Moscow, São Paulo, and Prague. She crowned the representatives for the Miss Universe 2010 pageant in those places. She also visited Colombia and Panama for different events.

In May, Stefanía attended Fashion Week in the Dominican Republic. She was also named one of the "50 Most Beautiful People" by People en Español magazine. In March 2010, Stefanía became the official face of Avon Products.

On August 23, 2010, Stefanía passed her crown to Ximena Navarrete from Mexico. During her last walk as Miss Universe, she showed a Venezuelan flag with seven stars. The Venezuelan government had changed the flag to have eight stars in 2006. Showing the old flag was seen by some as a quiet way to show her feelings about the government's new rules.

During protests in Venezuela in 2014, Stefanía joined a campaign called "Your Voice is Your Power." This campaign spoke out against violence and the limits on media in Venezuela. She explained that taking pictures for the campaign made her feel sad and angry. She wanted to be a voice for human rights and support those protesting against the government of Nicolás Maduro.
