Stephanie Louise Gilmore (born January 29, 1988) is an amazing Australian professional surfer. She is famous for being an eight-time world champion on the Women's WSL World Tour. She won these titles in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2022, making her one of the best surfers ever!

Stephanie Gilmore's Surfing Journey

Stephanie Gilmore started surfing when she was just nine years old. She quickly became very good at it. By the time she was 17, she was already competing in big world tour events. She even won her first major competition, the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast, as a special "wild card" entry. This means she was invited even though she wasn't a regular competitor.

The next year, in 2006, she won another wild card event, the Havaianas Beachley Classic. Her success helped her join the 2007 Women's ASP World Tour. She did incredibly well, winning four out of eight events. This led her to claim her first World Title in 2007. She continued this amazing winning streak in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2018.

In 2010, Stephanie also won the first-ever Swatch Girls Pro France. That same year, she was honored by being added to the Surfers' Hall of Fame. She also won the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year award, which is a big deal in sports!

Stephanie is a top athlete for the ROXY Surf Team. In 2014, a documentary film called Stephanie in the Water was made about her.

Winning Her First World Title in 2007

Even though 2007 was Stephanie's first year on the main tour, she won the Foster's ASP Women's World Title. She won three events that year. This put her in first place before the final event, the Billabong Pro Maui. When her main rivals, Sofia Mulanovich and Silvana Lima, were out of the competition, Stephanie officially won the title.

Olympic Games Appearance

Stephanie Gilmore also got to compete in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She had a good start, but was later beaten by Bianca Buitendag from South Africa. This meant she didn't get to compete for an Olympic medal. You can find more details about Australia's results at those Olympics.
