Stephanie Louise Gilmore, born on January 29, 1988, is an amazing Australian professional surfer. She is famous for being an eight-time world champion on the Women's WSL World Tour. She won these titles in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, and 2022.

Surfing Career Highlights

Stephanie Gilmore started surfing when she was nine years old. She first stood on a bodyboard, which is a smaller board used for riding waves. By the time she was 17, she was already competing in big world tour events.

Early Success as a Wild Card

Stephanie entered these events as a "wild card" competitor. This means she was invited to compete even though she hadn't fully qualified yet. Her talent quickly showed! She won her first wild card event, the 2005 Roxy Pro Gold Coast. The next year, she won another wild card event, the 2006 Havaianas Beachley Classic.

Becoming a World Champion

Stephanie's success helped her qualify for the 2007 Women's ASP World Tour. She did incredibly well in her first year. She won four out of eight events and became the 2007 World Champion. This was a huge achievement for a rookie! She continued her winning streak, claiming more world titles in 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2018.

In 2010, Stephanie also won the first-ever Swatch Girls Pro France. That same year, she was honored by being added to the Surfers' Hall of Fame. She also won the Laureus World Action Sportsperson of the Year award.

Olympic Journey

Stephanie Gilmore qualified to represent Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She had a good start but was later defeated by Bianca Buitendag from South Africa. This meant she did not get to compete for an Olympic medal.

Documentary and Sponsorships

In 2014, Stephanie was the star of a documentary film called Stephanie in the Water. She is also a top athlete for the ROXY Surf Team. She has many sponsors, including Roxy, Nikon Australia, Breitling watches, and Audi.
