The Doodlebops is a fun Canadian TV show for kids. It's a live-action musical comedy that teaches important lessons. Cookie Jar Entertainment made the show for CBC Television.

The main characters are Deedee Doodle, Rooney Doodle, and Moe Doodle. Actors wear special costumes and makeup to look like cartoon characters.

The show uses music, dancing, jokes, and short skits to teach kids about social skills. It often showed parts of a concert where young audiences could join in. The Doodlebops also aired in the United States on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney from 2005 to 2009. Later, it was on Cookie Jar TV from 2010 to 2013. You can still watch reruns on Starz Kids & Family.

Meet the Doodlebops: Main Characters

  • Deedee Doodle (keyboards, vocals) – Deedee wears purple and pink clothes. She has a pink "bob" haircut and a purple headband. She plays the keytar and keyboards. Deedee sings lead on many songs, like "Different Things" and "Tick Tock". Lisa Lennox plays Deedee.
  • Rooney Doodle (guitar, piano, vocals) – Rooney is dressed in blue. He plays the guitar and piano. His hair and ukulele are also blue. He wears a red beret and matching red shoes. Rooney is an inventor and enjoys watching demolition derbies. Chad McNamara plays Rooney.
  • Moe Doodle (drums, vocals) – Moe wears a yellow and orange striped shirt with orange pants. His hair is also orange. He plays the drums and is known for being loud and a bit messy. In a part of the show called "Don't Pull the Rope", Moe always pulls the rope, and water splashes on him! Jonathan Wexler plays Moe.

Other Friends in the Show

  • Bus Driver Bob – Bob drives the Doodlebops' bus. John Catucci plays him. Bob can play the guitar but is too shy to play for others. He has a twin brother named Rob.
  • Jazzmin – Jazzmin became the Doodlebops' manager in season two. She replaced Mazz. Jazzmin can play the harp and wants to be a stage actress. She can disappear by snapping her fingers! Jackie Richardson plays Jazzmin.
  • Mazz – Mazz was the Doodlebops' manager during season one. Kim Roberts played her.
  • Jumping Judy – Judy is Mazz's cousin. She bounces when she moves! Dancer Stacey Bafi-Yeboa played her.
  • Audio Murphy – Audio Murphy is a blue dog who helps the Doodlebops make their music videos. Jason Hopley voices him, and he is a puppet. He loves to knit.
  • Mudge – Mudge is a purple cat who often hears Deedee's knock-knock jokes. He lives in a vanity. Rob Stefaniuk voices Mudge.
  • Mr. Moosehead – Mr. Moosehead is a moose head hanging on the wall of the Doodlebops' clubhouse. Rob Stefaniuk also voices him.

Fun Parts of the Show

The Doodlebops show had some parts that happened in almost every episode:

  • Where's Moe? – Deedee and Rooney often can't find Moe. They ask, "Uh-oh, where's Moe?" Then they search for him, sometimes getting help from Mr. Moosehead or Mudge. Moe usually pops out when they least expect it!
  • The Pledge – The lights go dark, and the Doodlebops stand together to say the Doodlebop pledge, waving their flags. After that, they do some cool acrobatic moves.
  • It's Jazzmin! – After the pledge, their manager Jazzmin appears. She sings a little tune and speaks in rhymes. She leaves by snapping her fingers and disappearing, which always makes the Doodlebops wonder how she does it.
  • Don't Pull the Rope! – Before going to the recording studio, a rope falls from the ceiling. Moe always pulls it, even when warned not to! When he pulls it, water splashes all over him.
  • Get on the Bus! – After recording their song, the Doodlebops join Bus Driver Bob on his bus. Bob honks the horn, they get on, and they sing and dance all the way to their concert.

How the Show Changed Over Time

The show changed a bit between season one and season two, and then again in season three.

Changes in Seasons 1 and 2

  • In season one, the show looked more like a movie. In season two, it looked more like a regular TV show.
  • The opening video for the clubhouse changed from a real camera shot to a computer-made one.
  • Mr. Moosehead started announcing the episode name in season two. Before that, he just said "Go Doodlebops!"
  • The Doodlebops' costumes changed a little. Their fake ears were removed, and Deedee's hair got bigger.
  • Deedee's keytar and Rooney's guitar looked different.
  • Some characters, like two talking mannequin heads and small creatures, were only in season one.
  • Moe started shrinking to hide in season two. In season one, he just hid behind things.
  • The "Pledge" part became longer and had more acrobatics in season two.
  • In season two, the main song was performed in Audio Murphy's recording studio. In season one, it was performed in "Doodlebop Central."
  • Jazzmin, the new manager in season two, could disappear by snapping her fingers. Mazz, the season one manager, just walked out through a secret door.
  • The splash when Moe pulled the rope got bigger in season two.
  • After Moe pulled the rope in season two, they went straight to the recording studio. In season one, they went outside to play.
  • The "Get on the Bus" song and the bus itself changed. The song had more instruments, and the bus looked bigger.
  • In season two, the Doodlebops' concert outfits magically appeared when they ran on stage.
  • The concert part was shorter in season two, with usually only one or two songs.
  • Deedee's "Knock Knock" joke with Mudge moved from her mirror to a hot dog stand.

Changes in Season 3

  • Deedee's keyboard on stage looked different.
  • The "Knock Knock" joke went back to being in front of the mirror.
  • The Doodlebops started doing the "Dance of the Day" on stage, which they first showed in Audio Murphy's studio.
  • To change into their concert clothes, the Doodlebops would spin around and say, "We're the Doodlebops!"
  • The bookcase where Jazzmin appeared started spinning instead of sliding.
  • The "Get on the Bus" song was sometimes shorter to save time.
  • The background during the end credits changed to show the Doodlebops meeting fans.

Doodlebops on the Road: Rockin' Road Show

After the first TV series ended, the Doodlebops came back in 2010 with an animated show called Doodlebops Rockin' Road Show. Cookie Jar Entertainment also produced this show.

In this new show, Jazzmin, Audio Murphy, Mr. Moosehead, and Mudge were not there because the Doodlebops were on tour. The only characters in every episode were Bus Driver Bob, Deedee, Rooney, Moe, and a new small pink dog named Bop-Bop. In each episode, Mail Snail would deliver a DVD from a real child who needed help. That child would then become an animated character and join the Doodlebops on their bus as a "Doodle for a Day."

Live Show: Together Forever Tour

A live stage show called The Doodlebops: Together Forever Tour traveled across Canada in early 2009. The show included popular songs from the TV series and some new ones. It used big screens, original sets, and costumes. A new group of performers played the Doodlebops in this live show.

Koba Entertainment produced this tour, and Paquin Entertainment presented it.
