The Rectory is a tall, impressive rock formation in Utah, United States. It's a sandstone peak, reaching 6,565 feet (about 2,000 meters) high. You can find it in Castle Valley, Utah, close to the city of Moab.

This amazing rock is like a long, thin wall, about 200 feet (61 meters) wide and 1,000 feet (305 meters) long. It has very steep, straight walls made of Wingate Sandstone that rise 200 feet (61 meters) from its base. Any rain that falls on The Rectory flows into the nearby Colorado River.

The Rectory is part of a group of cool rock formations. The nearest taller peak is Castleton Tower, which is just a short distance to the south. Right next to The Rectory, to the north, are two other rock towers called Priest and Nuns. Further away, along the same ridge, you'll find The Convent and a tower named Sister Superior.

The first time someone successfully climbed The Rectory was on May 22, 1962. The climbers were Harvey Carter and Cleve McCarty, and they used a path called the Empirical Route. Harvey Carter was the one who gave this unique rock formation its name.
