Theodor Gebre Selassie is a former professional footballer from the Czech Republic. He was born on December 24, 1986. He played as a right-back or wing-back.
Theodor played for the Czech national team 54 times. He scored three goals for his country. He was the first player of African descent to play for the Czech Republic.

Theodor's Early Life and Family
Theodor Gebre Selassie was born in 1986 in a town called Třebíč. This town was part of Czechoslovakia at the time. His father, Chamola, came from Ethiopia. He worked as a doctor in Czechoslovakia.
Theodor's mother, Jana, is Czech. She worked as a schoolteacher. Theodor also has a younger sister named Anna. Anna is a talented athlete too. She plays for the Czech Republic women's national handball team.
Starting His Football Journey
Theodor started playing football in 1992. He joined the youth team of Velké Meziříčí. He played there for six years. Later, he moved to Vysočina Jihlava. He was part of their youth team until 2005.
Education was very important to Theodor's family. He almost stopped playing football to focus on university studies. But in the end, he decided to continue his football career. He joined Velké Meziříčí's main team in 2005.
After that, he played for Slavia Prague in the 2007–08 season. With them, he won the Czech First League title. Then, he moved to Slovan Liberec. He won the league title again with them in the 2011–12 season.
Playing for Werder Bremen
After playing well in the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament, Theodor moved to Germany. He signed a four-year contract with Werder Bremen. This team plays in the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league.
He scored his first goal for Bremen on August 24, 2012. It was an equalizer against Borussia Dortmund. He played many games for Werder Bremen. He was a very important player for them.

Playing for His Country: Czech Republic
In May 2011, Theodor was called up to play for the Czech Republic national football team. On June 4, he made history. He became the first player of African descent to play for the Czech Republic. This happened in a game against Peru.
He was chosen to be in the Czech squad for UEFA Euro 2012. He played in all four of the Czech Republic's games. The team won their group but then lost to Portugal in the quarter-finals.
On October 12, 2012, he scored his first goal for the national team. It was during a World Cup qualifier against Malta. He also played for the Czech Republic in UEFA Euro 2016.
In May 2019, Theodor announced that he was retiring from playing for the national team.
