Thierachern is a small town, also called a municipality, located in Switzerland. It is found in the Thun area, within the canton of Bern.

History of Thierachern

Thierachern was first mentioned in written records in the year 1250. It was called Tierachern back then.

Ancient Times in Thierachern

People have lived in the Thierachern area for a very long time. Evidence shows that people were here during the neolithic era (New Stone Age), the Bronze Age, and the La Tène era (Iron Age). Under the village church, experts found remains of a Roman-era settlement and graves. More ancient stone graves were found near Egg. These old discoveries show that people have lived in this area for thousands of years.

Thierachern Through the Centuries

The village first became part of a territory called the Herrschaft of Strättligen. The village church, named St. Martin, was first mentioned in 1228. This church was rebuilt between 1706 and 1708.

Over time, the village was owned by different lords. In 1594, a family from Bern bought the village. They then sold it to Bern in 1607. After this, Thierachern became part of the Bernese Thun District. In 1841, the village sold a large piece of common land to the Swiss Army. This land was used as a training ground for soldiers near Thun.

Modern Thierachern

In the 1960s, more people started moving to Thierachern. They wanted to live outside the growing city of Thun. New houses were built to welcome the new residents. Today, most people who live in Thierachern travel to Thun for their jobs. About 35% of the jobs in Thierachern are in farming.

Thierachern is located about 5 kilometers (3 miles) from downtown Thun. It is near the Aare river. The municipality includes the main village of Thierachern and smaller areas called hamlets, such as Wahlen, Egg, and Schwand.
