Tobel-Tägerschen is a town, also called a municipality, in the Thurgau area of Switzerland. It's part of the Münchwilen district.

This municipality was formed in 1999 when two smaller villages, Tägerschen and Tobel, joined together.

History of Tobel-Tägerschen

The village of Tägerschen was first mentioned in old records in the year 762. Back then, it was called Tegarascha.

In the 700s and 800s, a lot of land in Tägerschen was bought by the Abbey of St. Gallen, which was a very important monastery. The local Counts of Toggenburg originally had the right to hold courts and make decisions for the area. In 1258, these rights were given to the Knights Hospitaller, a group of knights who helped people and ran hospitals. They had a special base called a Commandry in Tobel.

Over time, the Knights Hospitaller gained more and more control. By the year 1500, they had almost complete power over the land and its people, like a Manor. There was one house that was special; it was free from local lords in 1547. This house changed owners many times. From 1798 to 1871, it was the main office for the local government leader. Later, it became a place where embroidery was made, and then a dairy, which is still there today.

People in the area were either Catholic or Protestant. They went to different churches in Tobel and Affeltrangen.

The first local laws were written down in 1490. These laws helped organize daily life. Farmers grew grain using a system called the three-field system, where they rotated crops to keep the soil healthy. Some people also grew grapes for wine, which is called viticulture. In the 1800s, farming changed, and people started growing more hay. Fruit farming began in 1911.

Between 1870 and 1914, the village was part of a big boom in embroidery, which is decorative sewing. In 1910, there were 26 people working in embroidery in the village. A needle factory opened in 1924. Later, in 1978, a large storage area for oil products was built, with a train connection to the Thurgau-Bahn railway line.
