Trent Alexander Boult (born 22 July 1989) is a famous New Zealand cricket player. He played for the New Zealand national team from 2011 to 2024. He is known as a fast bowler and still plays in different Twenty20 leagues around the world.
Trent Boult was a very important part of the New Zealand team. They won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. He also helped his team reach the finals of the Cricket World Cup twice, in 2015 and 2019.
He bowls with his left arm and bats with his right hand. Boult played his first Test match in December 2011. His first One Day International (ODI) game was in July 2012. He took the most wickets in the 2015 Cricket World Cup along with another player. In 2018, he became the third New Zealander to get a hat-trick in ODIs. A hat-trick means taking three wickets in three balls. In 2019, he was the first New Zealand bowler to get a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup match.

About Trent Boult
Trent Boult was born in Rotorua, New Zealand, in 1989. He grew up in Ōhope and Tauranga. He went to Otumoetai College for his education. His older brother, Jono Boult, is also a cricketer. Trent is from the Māori community. He is connected to the Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāi Te Rangi iwi (tribes).
Trent got engaged to Gert Smith in June 2016. They got married in August 2017. They have three sons named Bowie, Parker, and Charlie. The family lives in Mt. Maunganui.

Playing for Teams
In 2015, Trent Boult was the best wicket-taker for New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup. After this, he was chosen to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sunrisers Hyderabad team bought him for $600,000.
In 2017, the Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for a large amount of money for the 2017 Indian Premier League. He also played for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL from 2018 to 2019.
In June 2019, he joined the Toronto Nationals team for the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament.
Before the 2020 IPL season, Boult moved to the Mumbai Indians team. He played a very important role in helping Mumbai win the 2020 IPL title. He was named the best player of the final match. He was also chosen as the player of the season. Boult took 25 wickets in that IPL season. He also bowled four "maiden overs," which means no runs were scored off his bowling in those overs. This was the most by any player in one IPL season. His best bowling in the IPL was taking 4 wickets for only 18 runs against CSK in October 2020.
In the 2022 IPL auction, the Rajasthan Royals team bought Boult. In November 2024, the Mumbai Indians bought him again for the 2025 IPL season.
Playing for New Zealand
Trent Boult joined the New Zealand A team for training in 2007. In February 2008, he went to Malaysia for the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
In January 2009, when he was just 19, Boult was picked for the New Zealand team. This was for a one-day series against Australia. He was known as the fastest bowler on the New Zealand team at that time. He could bowl at speeds up to 143.3 kilometers per hour.
Boult played his first Test match in December 2011 against Australia. New Zealand won that match by a small margin. It was New Zealand's first Test win in Australia since 1985. He took four wickets in the game.
In 2012, Boult performed very well against teams like West Indies, India, and Sri Lanka. He became a strong partner for Tim Southee in bowling. In 2013, he took 19 wickets in 5 Test matches against England. His best bowling figures in a Test innings were 6 wickets for 68 runs.
After an injury, Boult returned to play against the West Indies. He won the "man of the match" award in a Test game. He took 10 wickets for 80 runs in that match. He also made an amazing one-handed catch to get a player out.
In 2014, his team number changed from 8 to 18 for T20 games.
In 2015, Boult played in the first-ever day-night Test match against Australia. He was the first New Zealander to take five wickets in a day-night Test. He was also chosen for the "Team of the Tournament" at the 2015 World Cup.
In 2018, Boult had his best Test match bowling figures. He took 6 wickets for only 32 runs against England. New Zealand won that match easily. He was named the "man of the series" for his excellent performance. He also received awards for being the best Test player and best international player of the year.
In 2019, he was part of New Zealand's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In a match against Bangladesh, he took his 150th wicket in ODIs. Later, against Australia, he took his second hat-trick in a World Cup. He was the first New Zealand bowler to achieve this in a World Cup.
In 2021, Boult helped New Zealand reach the finals of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He took 13 wickets, which was the most for his team.
In January 2022, he took his 300th wicket in Test cricket against Bangladesh.
In May 2024, he was chosen for New Zealand’s team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. After New Zealand was out of the tournament, he announced his retirement from international T20 cricket.

Trent Boult is a left-arm fast-medium bowler. He is known for making the ball swing in the air. He can make the ball move both ways, which makes it hard for batsmen to hit. His main skill is bowling the "inswinger" to right-handed batsmen. His childhood hero in cricket was Wasim Akram.
Experts say Boult is one of New Zealand's best bowling discoveries. He is also very good at catching. He has made many amazing one-handed catches. He and Tim Southee form a strong opening bowling team. They have taken many wickets together since 2013. In Test matches, Neil Wagner also helps them with his bowling. In August 2019, Boult became the third New Zealand bowler to take 250 wickets in Test cricket.
