Trent Alexander Boult, born on July 22, 1989, is a famous New Zealand cricketer. He played for the New Zealand national team from 2011 to 2024. Trent is known as a fantastic fast bowler and still plays in different Twenty20 leagues around the world.
He was a very important player when New Zealand won the ICC World Test Championship in 2021. Trent also helped his team reach the finals of the Cricket World Cup twice, in 2015 and 2019.
Trent is a left-arm fast-medium bowler and bats right-handed. He made his first Test match appearance in December 2011. His One Day International (ODI) debut followed in July 2012. He was the top wicket-taker in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In 2018, he achieved a hat-trick in an ODI match. Then, in 2019, he became the first New Zealander to take a hat-trick in a Cricket World Cup game.

Early Life and Family
Trent Boult was born in Rotorua, New Zealand, in 1989. He grew up in Ōhope and Tauranga. He went to Otumoetai College for his education. Trent's older brother, Jono Boult, is also a cricketer.
Trent is of Māori descent. His family connections are to the Ngāi Tahu, Ngāti Porou, and Ngāi Te Rangi tribes. Trent married Gert Smith in August 2017. They have three sons and live in Mount Maunganui.

Playing for Teams
In 2015, Trent was the top wicket-taker for New Zealand at the ICC Cricket World Cup. After this, he joined the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sunrisers Hyderabad team bought him for a large sum of money.
In 2017, the Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for the 2017 Indian Premier League. He also played for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL from 2018 to 2019. In June 2019, he played for the Toronto Nationals in the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament.
Trent moved to the Mumbai Indians before the 2020 IPL season. He played a key role in Mumbai winning the 2020 IPL title. He was named the best player in the final match. He also won the player of the season award. Trent took 25 wickets that season, making him the third-highest wicket-taker. He also bowled four "maiden overs," which means he bowled an entire over without the batter scoring any runs. His best bowling in the IPL was 4 wickets for 18 runs against Chennai Super Kings.
In the 2022 IPL auction, the Rajasthan Royals bought Trent. In November 2024, the Mumbai Indians bought him again for the 2025 IPL player-auctions. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for his team, just behind Jasprit Bumrah.
International Matches
Trent Boult started his international journey early. In 2007, he toured with the New Zealand A team. He also played in the 2008 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Malaysia.
In 2009, at just 19, Trent was chosen for the New Zealand team to play against Australia. He was one of the fastest bowlers on the team.
Trent made his Test debut in December 2011 against Australia. New Zealand won that match, which was their first Test win in Australia since 1985. Trent took four wickets in the game. He also scored 21 runs in a partnership with Chris Martin.
In 2012 and 2013, Trent performed very well against teams like West Indies, India, and England. He took 19 wickets in 5 Test matches against England. His best bowling figures in a Test innings were 6 wickets for 68 runs.
In 2014, Trent's jersey number changed from 8 to 18 for the T20 series against West Indies.
In 2015, during the first-ever day-night Test match against Australia, Trent made history. He became the first New Zealander to take five wickets in a day-night Test. He was also named in the 'Team of the Tournament' for the 2015 World Cup.
In 2018, Trent had his best Test match bowling figures, taking 6 wickets for 32 runs against England. New Zealand won that series, and Trent was named the best player. He also received the Men's Test Player of the Year award.
In 2019, Trent was part of New Zealand's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He took his 150th wicket in ODIs during the tournament. He also took a hat-trick against Australia, becoming the first New Zealander to do so in a Cricket World Cup. In 2021, he was in New Zealand's squad for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He helped his team reach the finals, taking 13 wickets.
In January 2022, Trent took his 300th wicket in Test cricket against Bangladesh. In May 2024, he was part of New Zealand’s team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. He retired from international cricket after this tournament.
Playing Style
Trent Boult is a left-arm fast-medium swing bowler. He might not be the tallest, but he bowls with good speed, around 140 km/h. He is great at making the ball swing both ways, which makes it hard for batters to hit. His main skill is bowling an inswinger to a right-handed batter.
Trent's childhood hero was the famous bowler Wasim Akram. In 2013, a former New Zealand captain, Jeremy Coney, said Trent was the best new bowler New Zealand had found since Shane Bond.
Trent is also known for his amazing one-handed catches. He can dive and catch the ball with either hand! He has formed a strong bowling partnership with Tim Southee. They have taken many wickets together since 2013. In Test matches, Neil Wagner also helps them with his short, left-arm deliveries. In August 2019, Trent became the third New Zealand bowler to take 250 wickets in Test cricket.
