Trinity Bay is a large body of water located in Texas, United States. It forms the northeast part of Galveston Bay. This bay is surrounded by Chambers and Harris counties. It stretches about 20 miles (32 km) long.

Trinity Bay starts where the Trinity River flows into it. It is separated from the main part of Galveston Bay by the San Jacinto River. This area is also part of the Houston Ship Channel, which is a busy waterway.

About Trinity Bay

Trinity Bay is an important part of the larger Galveston Bay system. It gets a lot of its water from the Trinity River. In fact, the Trinity River basin provides more than half of all the fresh water that flows into the Galveston Bay complex. This fresh water is very important for the plants and animals that live in the bay.

Surrounding Areas

The land around Trinity Bay is mostly made up of marshes and open prairie. These areas are home to many different kinds of wildlife.

Several towns and communities are located near the bay:

  • The town of Anahuac is found close to where the Trinity River enters the bay.
  • The community of Beach City is located closer to the San Jacinto River.
  • The city of Baytown is also nearby, though it does not touch the bay's shores directly.
  • Many smaller communities are also found along the bay's edges.

Much of the land near the bay is still natural or undeveloped. A large part of this area is protected as the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge. This refuge is located between Trinity Bay and East Bay, which is another section of the Galveston Bay system. It provides a safe home for many birds and other animals.
