Chambers County is a county in the U.S. state of Texas. It is located near the Gulf of Mexico. As of the 2020 census, about 46,571 people lived there. The main town, or county seat, is Anahuac. Chambers County is also part of the larger Greater Houston area. This area includes big cities like Houston, The Woodlands, and Sugar Land.
History
Early Settlements
A long time ago, in 1756, a Spanish mission was built near what is now Wallisville. This mission was named Nuestra Señora de la Luz. Spanish missions were like settlements where priests lived. They taught local people about their religion and way of life.
Founding the County
Chambers County was officially started in 1858. It was named after Thomas Jefferson Chambers. He was a very important general during the Texas Revolution.
Geography
Land and Water
Chambers County covers a total area of 871 square miles. About 597 square miles of this is land. The other 274 square miles, which is about 31%, is covered by water.
The southern and southwestern parts of the county are along the Galveston Bay Area. This includes the shores of Trinity Bay and East Bay. A small part of the southeastern area is right on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

In 2000, there were 26,031 people living in the county. There were 9,139 households, which are groups of people living together. The average household had about 2.82 people.
About 28.9% of the population was under 18 years old. The median age was 35 years. This means half the people were younger than 35 and half were older.

Airports
The county has two airports that are open to the public.
- Chambers County Airport is located east of Anahuac. It was built in the 1940s with help from the government.
- Chambers County-Winnie Stowell Airport serves the towns of Stowell and Winnie.
There is also a private airport called RWJ Airpark in Beach City. It can be used by the public.
Chambers County is also close to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. This is a large international airport in Houston.
