The University Museums at the University of Delaware are a group of special collections. They hold amazing American art, cool minerals, and ancient pottery from before Christopher Columbus arrived.
These museums are open for everyone to visit. Students at the University of Delaware also use them like labs. They learn how to take care of and display art and artifacts. The collections help teach many subjects. These include geology (the study of rocks), African American studies, and art history.

University Gallery: A World of Art
The University Gallery is located in the "Old College" building. This gallery has more than 10,000 pieces of art!
Photography Collection
A big part of the collection is its old and new photographs. You can see many works by famous photographers. These include Gertrude Käsebier and Clarence Hudson White.
Ancient Pottery and American Art
The gallery also has ancient pottery. This pottery comes from the Moche and Pueblo cultures. These were ancient groups of people. You can also find many American prints and drawings here. These artworks date from the 1800s to today.
Brandywine School Artists
In 2007, the University Gallery took over a special collection. It includes important works by artists from the Brandywine School. These artists include Howard Pyle, Stanley Arthurs, Frank Schoonover, and N. C. Wyeth.
Mechanical Hall: African American Art
The Mechanical Hall building was updated in 2004. It now holds the Paul R. Jones Collection of African American Art. This amazing collection was given to the university by Paul R. Jones. He is an art collector from Atlanta, Georgia.
The Paul R. Jones Gift
Paul R. Jones gave hundreds of important artworks from his own collection. This gift happened because of a friendship. University of Delaware professor William Homer started this friendship in the early 1990s. The University Gallery showed some of Jones's art in 1993. After talking about how to care for the art, Jones made the gift in 2001.
Important Artists in the Collection
The Jones collection is very special. It has a wide range of African American art from the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s. It includes important works by many artists. Some of these are Romare Bearden, Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, and David Driskell.
Mineralogical Museum: Gems and Rocks
The Mineralogical Museum started in 1964. It began with a gift from Irénée du Pont. He gave his personal collection of minerals. He had bought these minerals in 1919.
Minerals from Famous Mines
This collection is now in Penny Hall. It has many examples of minerals from mines that are no longer active. You can see a tourmaline from the Himalaya Mine in San Diego, California. There is also copper ore from the Quincy Mine in Michigan.
