Vania King (born February 3, 1989) is a retired American tennis player. She was a top-10 doubles player. In 2010, Vania won two big women's doubles titles. She won at Wimbledon and the US Open. Her partner for these wins was Yaroslava Shvedova. They also reached the final of the 2011 US Open together.

Vania won 15 doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Her highest ranking in doubles was No. 3 in the world. She also reached the mixed-doubles final at the French Open in 2009. Her partner was Marcelo Melo.

In singles, Vania King reached No. 50 in the world. She won one WTA Tour title at the 2006 Bangkok Open. She also finished second in two other tournaments. These were the 2013 Guangzhou International and 2016 Jianxi International. She made it to the third round in Grand Slam singles four times. These were at the 2009 US Open, 2011 French Open, 2011 US Open, and 2012 Australian Open.

Vania King announced her retirement from tennis on April 6, 2021.

Vania King's parents moved to the United States from Taiwan in 1982. She is the youngest of four children. Her brother, Phillip, was also a talented tennis player. He was a two-time All-American at Duke University. He also won two US junior championships. Vania graduated from Long Beach Poly High School in California.

Winning Her First Singles Title

In 2006, Vania won her only singles title on the WTA Tour. This was at the Bangkok Open in Thailand. She beat Tamarine Tanasugarn in the final match. In November of that year, she reached her highest singles ranking. She was ranked No. 50 in the world.

Grand Slam Doubles Success

Vania King had great success in doubles. In 2009, she reached the mixed-doubles final at the French Open. She played with Brazilian player Marcelo Melo. They lost a close match in the final.

The year 2010 was a huge year for Vania in doubles.

  • At Wimbledon, she won the women's doubles title. Her partner was Yaroslava Shvedova. They won the final in straight sets.
