The Vanne river is about 59 km (36.7 mi) long. The area of land that drains into the Vanne, called its drainage basin, is around 990 km2 (382 sq mi).

The Vanne river starts near the church in the town of Fontvannes. This town is in the Aube department. The river begins at an altitude of about 145 m (475.7 ft). Fontvannes is a small town, about 17 km (11 mi) west of Troyes, which is the main city of the Aube department.
The River's Journey
From its source, the Vanne flows towards the southwest. It then crosses into the Yonne department.
The River's End
The Vanne river finishes its journey in the city of Sens. Here, it joins the Yonne river from its right side. This meeting point is at an altitude of about 65 m (213.3 ft).
